作者: utopia    時間: 2008-3-5 14:03     標題: Quitting in two hours..........ai.........

Checking the clock every hour.
Two more hours, it's time to say goodbye.
It takes so much energy to come to this end.
I knew she wasn't happy about me this morning but as always, no day is a good day.

I know quitting this job sound insane to everybody but I had enough.
There is no point staying in a company when you lost all the faith and passion.

It's ironic, my so called "future" office is renovating right next to me everyday and I'm courting the days.
Isn't it funny? By the time I'm done with my two weeks notice, my office should be done too.

It's extremely tough to hang in the resign letter. If it's all about me only, it's fine but there are too many uncertainty.
Yet, I still have to breathe hard and walk into her office in two hours. To be exact, 2.5hr.

Two years has gone, it's time to move on. Even if it's risky and  uncertain. I gain more strength to face the future after what had happened these years. I should not live under a shelter forever. It's time for me to step out this door and find a new path, rather it's bad or good decision. I will be responsible for all the consequences. It's my life after all.

You never know if you don't try.
May be better, may be worse, but at least you know you are not satisfied at the moment and I would say it is very important.
You are still young la.  If the next one is no good, just keep looking lor.

I am sure you will find another job soon.

I had my old job for nearly 3-4 years.  In the begining it was very promising and they even had the bright future but I quit the job after 3-4 years of consistent disappointment.

I am quite happy with my current job and I am glad I guitted that job.

Good luck to you.  If you need any help finding a new job, people here will gladly to help you.

Thank you everyone, you guys make me feel so much better and comfortable now.

I slept at 1:30 last night and keep worrying about my decision.

Myversa,

same here, working here, I'm sure I will learn a great load of things in this field........but with all these chaos....and craziness. I have enough....

Sazabi,

one curious question want to ask you since I think you are in management, right?
How do you see this situation? An international company found my C/V on internet and they are desperately need to look for 4 ppl for each office.
The HR manager still insist to contact me after I ignore him the first time (both e-mail and phone) because he is from montreal. Then, after I answer his call the second time, he actually flied to vancouver to interview me from Montreal. Then, the first interview, he highly recommended me to the office manager to see me for second round.

After the second round, they said their financial manager would do an phone interview with me since he is in Montreal (which is the final stage as far as I understand). Then, I was on the phone for 30 minute with their senior vice president.

Here is what the vice president said which confuse me

"Welcome on board" (That mean hired me right???)

"I will see you in the Vancouver office if we are both still interest in each other"

"Do you have baby? Because with the new SAP system, I'm sure you might need to stay behind to do follow up at the beginning"

"how soon can you leave your current job? Because I want you to go to the information session training in US on March 10, 2008 but seems like you can't make it because of the two weeks notice. But don't worry, you won't miss anything if you fly to Montreal in May for the 3 weeks training"

"I think you would fit the position well. I will ask our HR to contact you on my way out"

Then, 1.5 week, no response. Well, they returned my call on Monday said that the HR was away on Thursday and Friday that's why he couldn't return my call.
Then, the HR said it looks like they want to do one more interview with me. Either I fly over to Montreal to see them or they send someone to Vancouver to meet with me. It's depends on my status. At this stage, it is still very promising.

WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON with them??
anyone can tell me? Today is Wed, and they still haven't send me anything that they want to arrange for the last interview.

Are they BSing me? Is it normal for a large company like that?
作者: daimo    時間: 2008-3-5 15:17

If I were you I wouldn't resign unless I have the job offer signed.

Lots of HR ppl know how to keep people "warm" while they are still choosing candidates.

the job market now is very good la
even if u dont get that job u will have a lot of options
作者: utopia    時間: 2008-3-5 16:25

damnit, she just left all the sudden.........and told me last minute that she has to go get her contact lens...

Guess I have to delay one more day~~
作者: SAZABI    時間: 2008-3-5 16:33

arrr... I wouldn't trust a word from those HR people.

If those words come from someone who is "able" to interview you and is directly linked to the operation (i.e. chief engineer, project manager), then I would take the words lor.
For some HR people, their responsibility is to find the best candidate for the company.  However, when they fly all the way to meet you doesn't mean he/she has super high interest in you.  To fly over to see someone, the 1st objective is to show the company that he/she is working hard not searching locally only.  Plus, the person get the benefit to travel for fun (may be).

But don't worry, that's just my opinion towards the situation.  Whether you are their frist prospect or not, I can't tell, but for sure they are interested in your qualification, which matters the most.  When my company hire people, we care about the qualification and experience highlight the most.

In most industry, it is hard to hire good people now.  So don't worrry.  There are lots of opportunities out there at the moment

Those words that I mentioned was from their senior vice-president in their North America head office.........

The HR manager is the most quiet HR I ever met in numerous interviewsssss..
作者: utopia    時間: 2008-3-5 16:53

The whole interview with this company make me feel like I"m day dreaming...... they were like quick action that I quickly gone through their 3 interview within a week.......so hot that all the sudden, it's quiet down without any notice........

It just so strange...., the so called Financial manager (their accounting based in Montreal) and the HR manager dun seems to be a talker at all.

80% of the interview, they just sit there and wait for me to sell myself to them. They spend probably 5-10 minutes to ask me question and the rest of the time, they keep asking "if there anything else you want to ask" or "if  there is anything else you want to tell me" for sooooo many times..........

and on my 2nd round, I don't think I done good at all...... then they select me for the 3rd one...and give me a feeling that is the final one............. ( I can't recall now.. it was the office manager who done 80% of the talking.... just a old gentleman keep telling how great their company is and how life change without notice...... )

I had no experience that deal with international company like that before. When I said international, it mean they have office globally, including HK regional office lor...

So I'm not sure if it's because they are still selecting candidate or  big company tend to do things slow

I understand that's why I said it sounds insane to almost everybody around me that I'm quitting a job that will never fire me.........
作者: Alcoholic    時間: 2008-3-6 08:48

Twin,
until the day that you get a contract appointment from the new company, don't quit your job. no matter how promising the interviewer make it seem like, they might turn you down last second.
作者: utopia    時間: 2008-3-6 09:02

I'm quitting not because of this interview la.
So many things had happened lately, and that's really way too much. I can only feel uncertainty and mess in this office lately.
Everyday has something new happening and with the key employee away for meeting for two weeks and new management and new owner, everything seems to be out of control.....

ai....., well, my case is different I guess? If I can't find a job sometimes soon, I would focus on education since it's my first priority.
作者: kaimui22    時間: 2008-3-6 09:26

i think if you have a backup plan and no need to worry (financially), then why not quit your job if you are so unhappy. Don't think too much about the job offer from Montreal as they haven't proved themselves to be a company you can trust yet. Just make sure you know what you're going to do once you quit. If you can find a second job right away, then do so. If you want to enrich yourself educationally and can afford it, why not take this time off and study what you want?

Just make sure you have a plan and don't depend on the new company until they have a contract for you.

Good luck.
作者: myversa    時間: 2008-3-6 09:53

Yes I do not think you should put too much hope on that nw job.  Expect nothing but if something good comes it will definitely be a plus.  This way you will not feel disappointed.

I think if you still have annual vacation to use, use it.  Let yourself relax for few days and do not think about anything.

I would not want to stick with a company with no future at all.  I do not mind the size of the company as long as it got some future.  That's what I always got lied to by the top management for my old job.  I always see a future but it turns out to be disappointment.  My old company changed name, focus and management more than once.  Everytime I always think there would be a change.  I wasted so much time there.

You are just putting pressure on yourself which is not good.
作者: utopia    時間: 2008-3-6 10:32

Thanks for everybody again.

At this moment, what make me so determined on quitting the job is I have no burden on my shoulder.

That's why my co-worker has been telling me. (Well, she supposed to be under me but she is old enough to be my mom or aunt heehe) I'm still young and I should focus on my education when I can still afford to do so. She keep telling me once I have my own family, I cannot afford to do school anymore....
I
作者: utopia    時間: 2008-3-6 10:34

Basically, I have no hope on this new job at all.
Not even when their vice president told me these promising words.
The reason why I brought this up here is I'm very confuse on what the heck is going on and want to know the reason behind. So next time, if I run into the same situation, I would know what to do.
Because of their so called promising word, I missed one of my interview chance which pissed me off.....

Well, si daan la, I learned something new lor. Even if a company said he hired me, I won't believe it until I see the paperwork and sign it.

Twin,
you should go out to celebrate tonight with caveman after you hand in your letter!!! sometimes, i think when i get my chance to hand it my letter, instead, i want to to just go up to my bin tai boss & say a big F-U in her face! saves me time & thought to write a letter

hahaha...my "to do list"....hahahaha i'm still doing it. omg. i wanna run away from it. i don't know whether to cry or laugh about it lor. my hubby told me not to do it, cus it's so overdone...but i can't....

the interview @ 1:30 is like Oxxxx Axxxx Management. i have NO CLUE what sort of management company it is. it seems like a more challenging job, but the range of range is pretty sweet.

the 2nd interview @ 3:15 is for a wireless technology company that deals with telus/bell/dell/orange etc... it's a younger company, with younger employees...seems so much fun to work at. and the duties are what i like too, with new things to learn. the wage is less than the first interview, but i'm actually more interested in working for this company lor.

myversa:
i tried EVERYTHING. i was on mybc.ca, 411.com, i did all the searches i possibly could...but i can't find anything. i even search the directory of all the companies with the address 1066 W.Hastings...& since i know which floor they're on, I browsed through the companies with similar suite #...but NOTHING! i think i'll call back to ask them what suite #, because she told me their office is on X floor...so i assumed they took up the whole floor. but when i search, there was different suite #s for that floor...so i'm confused lor.

作者: Alcoholic    時間: 2008-3-6 20:41

i would say the job market sucks...unless your looking for something that's like $12/hr

my Livestock B grad from UVic with mud mud health computer science management...something like that la. she had so much trouble looking for job. today, she ended up taking an office job that's only 32 annually

i did my search online... but i can tell you that my mind as well just monitor one search engine suen la. cus all the websites are spammed with recruiting agencies, posting the same jobs on every site. but when you register with them, they never call you back. & those stupid assessment tests are a waste of time.

i know this is very stupid...somehow the employment system here discourages people to got o post-secondary education because the salary that a high school grad get can be equal or even better than the money that a university graduate can get...

for example navcanada (agency that hires air traffic controllers) hires high school graduates....after training for 1 year...you get like 30k/year pay...and after in-job training...you start minimum 50k/year!...max goes to around 100k per year!

There are lots of jobs that don't require post secondary and easily over 50k per year, but trust me, you don't want (or most people don't want) to get into those fields.

I think the job market is relatively active. My brother had two job offers within a month. He took the first job in town and after working there for less than a month, telus from Vancouver contacted him and hired him and they are willing to pay for the moving expenses. So I would say, if you have the right education nor experience, it shouldn't be too hard to find a job.

With accounting field, I think the current market is active. I see job postings everywhere on different job seeking website.

Thanks for the advice. Which job websites are the most effective here? My friend is just entry level, so he has little bargaining power.
作者: utopia    時間: 2008-3-18 08:13

I found my job at bcjobs.ca
I would recommend bcjobs.ca and monster.ca

I don't like job bank because it seems like so many weird or small company on there.

Ask your friend to print out a bunch of resumes and just walk in to offices to submit.  You can get a job like this. Most company they are probably deciding on hiring or not, if they see your resume and like you, you might get hire.

Another way to find a job easily, is see job agent.
But don't just join any one, join the one that are well known and professional.

I highly recommend Robert Half, the agents there are professionally train and won't just throw any job to you. They carefully match your skill and the working environment that you prefer which most agents won't do that to the candidate. Although Robert Half only do finance and accounting but I think they have subdivision that do normal office staffing too... if I dun remember wrong.

When the HR told me he think April 1st is a good day to start, I was thinking are you fooling me?? since April 1 is April fool wor~~~

作者: utopia    時間: 2008-3-19 09:57

Thank you Little Prince,

But then I put myself in a hell situation my b*tch boss at my current place just become xtra b*tchy lately.

She tries her very best to b*tch at me on every single thing and tries her best to scream at me whenever she has a chance.

Twin, I'm so ready to give her a finger. Yesterday I almost wanted to talk back to her but my co-worker calm me down and told me it's only few more days before I leave.
If I talk back, I might relief my anger but I will ruin my HR daily life which I don't want that happen as the HR manager is very very close to me and protecting me all these years. ai... I can't wait until Tuesday man!!!
作者: SAZABI    時間: 2008-3-19 10:04

Yes... you did the right thing.  No need to cause more drama as you are leaving anyways.
作者: Alcoholic    時間: 2008-3-19 11:59

Twin,
just hang in there...!!!!
maybe she just wanna trick you to talk back & then destruct your "leaving in good terms"... you don't wanna scratch your file last minute ga~
besides, just pity her lor. this kind of people know very well herself that she will not find another "soft heart" employee like you to shrimp. if she continues this attitude, new employee will just quit & complain her
作者: utopia    時間: 2008-3-19 12:07

Thankx twin,

but she is just an insane pyscho ~~~~ When I said "scream" at me, she technically did ...........ai....... and my desk is pile with so much paperwork... and she gave these to me last minute lor

and continue giving me attitude on EVERY SINGLE THING~~~

I didn't ask the HR what did she say because I don't want and I don't need to know as I'm leaving in few more days.

that's what everybody telling me, it's almost impossible for her to find another employee like me. 90% of the girls out there will not stand her xxxxx attitude.

The auntie sit next to me always give me a two thumb up and ask me how can I actually survive in the past two years.. if it was her, she will be long gone already.
作者: Alcoholic    時間: 2008-3-19 12:55

Then just do what you're responsible for...
don't rush yourself la. i mean it's fine for boss to give employee work. but when you know she's doing it on purpose, then just relax, work at regular pace. there's no point of selling your life to get things done for stupid boss like this.
作者: utopia    時間: 2008-3-19 13:32

LOL, Twin,

Some honger guy just came by for interview now.
I feel sorry for him when I peek at his resume. He drove all the way from Richmond to serve this crazy b*tch.. poor him hahahahaha

When he was waiting for my insane boss quietly for 15 minutes, I really want to tell him, JUST RUN FOR YOUR LIFE.

I"M SUPER REGRET NOW....

Nope, the HK didn't get hired. I don't think he is qualified anyways, plus he is too nervous that cannot present himself well lor.

But now, I decided to listen to everybody. I will TAKE MY TIME and work on REGULAR PACE.She expected me to clean up a log file for her before I'm gone and clean up everything... YEAH RIGHT

and she just has ANOTHER DOCTOR appointment today...

Thinking may be I should call in sick on Monday :p

Utopia.......... your boss is so like my boss........... He did a quarter review with me on my last day of work. Everyone was so surprised, as if I would really care what he said! (well, end up I was supposed to have "personality problem", but I don't care!)

THANKS MYVERSA,

LOL, I knew that b*tch gone crazy yesterday when I called in sick.
I mean, would I look like I care? She has been giving me attitude but she always called in sick with different stupid reason.

For example, she got a paper cut and it hurts, so she can't come to work.
I'm not joking, this is one of her brilliant ideas for not coming back to work.
作者: SAZABI    時間: 2008-3-25 10:32

wahhahaha... u really call in sick?  lol, that is way too obvious before your last day, ahhaha
作者: myversa    時間: 2008-3-25 10:42

Who was the one picked up the phone when you called in sick?

Did you make up sick voice when you called in sick?

hahaha.. there is no point working for the last day because your mind will not be on the office.

How can a paper cut mkae her not come to work?  She got what she deserved.
