There will be more rats running around your place.
That's not 100% true, Richmond is running the green bin program and it's good. It significantly reduced the amount of solid waste in my house for at least 30%. The organic waste will be used for compost so it is good for everyone.
If you use a separate, lockable container, it should not smell.

Buy another freezer for 廚餘 only. Wrapped by newspaper before placed into the freezer. On the scheduled day, 將廚餘倒落個yard trimming bin到。 I think it will help.
廚餘is one thing, I am more against collecting garbage once every two week.
I understand and agree with you.
I agree,
Imagine, if they'll collect garbage everyday, what will happen? Probably people will produce more garbage! On the other hand, if they only collect garbage once every 2 weeks, then very likely people will try to make less garbage possible. Something like BYOB for shopping (less plastic bag usage), use own container for take out (less style foam container usage), use own chopsticks ...etc, these are some of the ways to be environmental friendly.
Until you have kid....you don't have a choice to have less diaper...And the diaper SMELL... just as an example.
Sometimes it's just not feasible to produce less garbage. I agree that we can divide our garbage better for recycling purpose instead of going to the landfill. But it's more of a hygiene issue of garbage sitting in the bin for 2 weeks in summer time.

I also agree, hygiene is definitely an issue. But we're living in Vancouver, don't we always experience post office on strike during X'mas, and garbage disposal service on strike during the hottest summer?! Even they collect garbage everyday, health/hygiene issue still exist.
I'm not an extreme environmental supporter anyways. And besides those issues, they just want to cut cost and coated with a nicer reason, maybe.
