Hello all....

Contract is up and want to upgrade my old iPhone 3G.  What do you guys think I should go for ??

Should I stay with what I know with the 4s or should I venture out to try an Android ??

Please give me some feedbacks and ideas.

Thanks in advance !! ^^

Samsung Galaxy S2
or
HTC Sensation

with Mac it's not just about the feature on the individual device. Do you own any of the iPad, Mac, iPod, Apple TV etc etc ? They all work together seamlessly with the new iCloud service from iOS5. That's one thing that no other device can offer you.

The Android ecosystem is so fragmented. The Android devices come in so many sizes. The app developers have a tough job optimizing for all of them.

The ios5 and iCloud are way ahead of the competition.

if u feel bored with ios, it is good to switch to galaxy S2 as it is thinner, faster, lighter and bigger then iphone4. u can have fun customizing android and roms

if u want to get iphone4s, i will wait for iphone5 cos i think iphone4s will last half more yr...

yes peter, as an islave, u should bundle urself to all apple products in order to use iCloud.
iCloud is simply a backup system that sync all files automatically to the internet storage.. for android, you can use app like Dropbox or SugarSync

google's definition of Cloud = a web browser that replace all software on ur computer. applications that run on the cloud. so.. u can access and work with them anywhere with any devices/pc

Obviously Samsung Galaxy S2 if you are looking for hardware performance...

I see no obvious improvement for the new 4S (everyone knows Apple's plans are not cheap, it doesn't worth people $$$ for such change/upgrade).

You should try some of the Huawai or ZTE Android phones. They are all very good.

Even though Google Android is just a copy of Apple's iPhone IOS, Android phones are still very good phones.

笑死我.. apple連operation feeling都可以用嚟告其他牌子,

你用 "a copy of" 咁嚴重. 嘩, 咁都屈嚟攞彩. 你真叻.

I would wait until the Samsung's "Unpack" event on Oct 11, they are announcing the new phone, possibly the Nexus Prime! I can't wait.

Rumors says Google might announce the Ice Cream Sandwich. (I think they should, as Apple is taking a chance as Google will announce the next generation OS, hardware while they are pushing the iPhone 4S)

iOS5 copies many features from Android, like true multitasking, notification, google chat, location latitude, ...  I wonder if google wants to sue apple.

The only thing I am excited from 4s is its camera.  SGII beats 4s in other categories and SGII is few months old already.  The next top Android phone will widen the gap even further.

At the end of the day, if you are love Apple, then you love iphone.
If you are logical and smart enough to know how to use a smartphone, then you should consider Android.

Apple IOS pioneers the industry and revolutionizes the whole category of products.
The imitators may have some nice features, but the imitators are just building on the foundation and direction set by the pioneer.

Looks nice, but a bit bulky. It does not have something as good as the Siri system.

bell, it is getting much better after the olympic (they built lots of tower)
作者: pkphilip    時間: 2011-10-7 17:59

Bell still don't have enough 850mhz infrastructure that took Rogers a long time to build, my gf is Bell and the speed of 3G is bad, we have the same Galaxy S. The battery life on the Samsung is the most disappointed thing, I have to take a spare battery with me these days.

Google is not announcing next week in respect to Steve. I am so sad.

Thank you all for your replies !!

I'm still holding on to see what to get because to me they are really similar.

I heard about the bad battery problem with the S2 and I heard the latest update of the boardband might make it better.

The reception/signal of the Bell network is another concern !

I think I will wait a bit longer and as Philip said there might be something cooking from google !! =P

ricrick 發表於 2011-10-5 13:47

Don't know about SugarSync. But saying that Dropbox is same as iCloud makes your comment weight a lot less.

iPhone vs Galaxy from a user's perspective (not some meaningless number comparison)

iPhone
- Glass and stainless steel (vs plastic on Galaxy...)
- iPhone 4 camera, esp video mode, is > Galaxy S2 already
- Apple Ecosystem, incl. iCloud, Airplay, Apps and songs you bought, etc (if it's worth anything to you)
- Superior App Store
- Smaller phone (if you like smaller over bigger)
- Siri (if it works)

Galaxy
- Thinner and Lighter (but bigger...)
- Bigger screen
- Open source and more flexible customization (if it's your type of thing)
- Better multitasking? (iPhone doesn't multitask with some 3rd party apps?)

Really can't say Galaxy is faster. Can only tell when he iPhone 4S and one does speed comparisons. I bet you the iPhone will be faster on most of the tasks. Camera alone we know start up is 3 times faster, which is very important...

Cloud... it depends on at which point you draw the line. One can say true cloud involves a pure visual and input client with no nothing on it (not even OS or web browser) and functions with a server which contains your OS, your Apps and your data. In that sense, even Goog's def is not far enough. This makes sense for a 0 latency network.

For a land line network (over-wifi or whatever), Goog's definition probably make sense.

However with wireless 3G/4G networks the way it is today, this is simply not feasible. I think Apple's definition of 'Cloud' makes more sense for the current state of our mobile networks. All the data is in the cloud, but applications which requires responsiveness is still on your device.
作者: satil    時間: 2011-10-7 20:48

for me , i don't believe cloud, i vpn home, all my data @home.
作者: pkphilip    時間: 2011-10-8 18:45

Google Apps are cloud based from day 1. I have no problem storing my temporary data with them.

There is another phone called the Xiaomi is based on Android MIUI and it is processed by Foxconn. It's cheap and good from what I could read.

The battery problem has been a big thing as the screen is getting bigger and CPU are more powerful.

Yesterday I shopped at Lansdowne Mall, one of the Chinese store (Bell network) offered the Galaxy S2 for FREE if you are signing with a 3 years contract...

Rogers is still having it on sale @ $199 (not necessarily to be LTE plan for now...)

$62 plus tax

200min day time
caller ID
Fab10
Unlimited after 6pm and wkd
unlimited msg, picture txt
1GB data

yes it's a little expensive after tax
but it's better than the "deal" that Fido offered me with $58 and a 3 yr contract, only unlimited incoming and 500mb
plus this bell contract is only 1 year, so I am free to whatever carrier I want after that. Not like I am stuck to pay $60 each month for 3 years.
作者: pkphilip    時間: 2011-10-15 23:42

It's definitely not bad, since Bell started HSPA+ now so data speed should be comparable to Rogers. Let us know how good the coverage is.

I wonder after the contract expire, will Bell give you the unlock code for the S2. I tried to unlock my co-worker's phone and it didn't work. Bell is using some other locking algorithm on it.

Coverage  so far so good, i say its about the same as what i got when i was with fido.

The speed is good too, have not had any problem broowsing and chatting. I dont youtube or download a lot so not sure about that yet.

Actually my phone is already  unlocked. Mine is a white s2, which is not yet available here. That bell dealer had the phone shipped from UK themselves , so it came unlocked, which  was another reason why i chose this phone, no need to pay extra money to get it unlocked as i will be in hk in less than 2 weeks, just in time for me to get this phone! ^_^

借問聲BELL果個 (VOICEMAIL TO TEXT) 係咪可以留中文VOICEMAIL﹐跟住 BELL 將佢翻譯﹐再TEXT比我﹖

I had both Iphone 4 and Galaxy s2, was actually more impressed with iphone 4s...Android is good for customization, that was it.

is it better to purchase an unlocked iphone 4s 16GB from apple online store ($649 & free shipping) then go fido/bell/rogers for some non-contractual plans?

or, just buy a locked one for $159 while we sign a 3 yr contract?

sorry I don't know ar >_<
i don't have voice mail
but where did you hear that from?
作者: 嘉嘉    時間: 2011-10-16 16:04

utomatically convert your voicemails into text messages so you can quickly read your voicemail when you’re busy or unable to dial in.

Manage your voicemail messages easily, quickly, and discreetly
Respond to messages by text or call back
Read delivered voicemail messages even if you leave your coverage area

作者: pkphilip    時間: 2011-10-16 20:39

I don't think the Bell system can convert Chinese ba....

I still prefer buying the phone in full (so it is unlocked and stays unlocked) and you have the freedom to negotiate with your existing provider. My attitude is that I don't need anything from them, so they either tell me to go away or keep me.

do you know of any more way to lower the battery consumption of the S2?
I have already reduced the screen brightness to almost minimum, and turned off vibration and gps/wifi/bluetooth off when not in use

I manage to root and unlock my BELL SGS2 after I got it. It is pretty easy to do so as there is an app in the market that can unlock it. The Galaxy S2 Sim unlock app wouldn't work on Bell, but the Galaxy S Unlock (by Helroz) work. After that you just have to unroot it if you don't want it to root. I haven't been able to find the original kernel from BELL yet though to put it back into my phone.
