Don't use Russ Baker Way now

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - Witnesses report seeing a small plane crash on approach to the runway and ended up on Russ Baker Way.

Steve called News1130 says he was one of the first on scene and broke open the door to the plane. "We pulled 6 out of the 7 passengers out. The fire department showed up, they're working on getting the pilot out now."

No word on any injuries.

The aircraft was headed from Vancouver to Kelowna, B.C., with eight people on board, a pilot who works for another airline at the airport said.

The plane turned around shortly after takeoff but did not make it back to the airport, crashing in the 5300-block of No. 2 Road in Richmond, said the pilot, who asked not to be identified.

The plane is a Beechcraft King Air turbo-prop, which has a capacity to carry nine people.

Glad to know that all 8 victims from the plane survived (plus a few more injured one way or another), but let's pray that they'll all make it because many (at least everyone from the plane, I think) are in critical condition.

Strange, because Vancouver Sun's version is quite a bit different:

http://www.vancouversun.com/news ... /5618769/story.html
VANCOUVER - The pilot killed during yesterday's fiery plane crash near Vancouver International Airport yesterday has been identified as a 44-year-old North Vancouver man.

The B.C. Coroner Service confirmed this morning that the pilot, 44-year-old Luc Fortin of North Vancouver, died from "thermal" injuries. The co-pilot remains in critical condition with burns to 80 per cent of his body.
...
As of 9 a.m. Friday morning, two patients involved in the crash remained in the intensive care unit at VGH, according to a Vancouver Coastal Health release. Four other patients from the crash are in stable, but serious condition at VGH, and two others were released from hospital last night after receiving treatment—one from VGH and one from Richmond.

No patients remain at Richmond Hospital, said VCH spokeswoman, Trudi Beutel, in the release, adding that all next of kin have been notified.

She said no further patient details will be released by VCH at this time.
