What do i have to do to get the $6000? i only have the old ID with "3 stars". I heard that we can apply for 智能身份證 at Consulate of China (on Broadway). Did anyone actually do it this way? Thanks for sharing.

Fully booked la.  You have to go back HK for renewal.

The rule for $6000 is that you have to have a valid HK ID by Mar 31, 2012. All non-smart card ID are invalid as of 2003. If you are able to get your ID by Mar 31, then your $6000 application will get processed after Apr 1, 2012.

This is a very stupid hidden policy, and meaning you have to either open a bank account in HK or wait 2 months after Apr to get a chequie ready.

I did plan to get the smartid from HK (if I can't get it at the Consulate), and come back here to apply for $6000 at Bank of China so I don't have to wait so long in HK. Is it going to work?

of course, but service lor~ about $110 HKD la! but if u always go HK, y not keep the HK account... so u don't have to bring HKD back 2 vancouver. it's always better exchange rate from banks in HK than in Vancouver bor!

So has anyone got their SmartID here at the Consulate? And how did you do it?

I had mine done through the consulate, the experience is painful and frustration. First with the long waiting list for appointment, next is the amount of documents and their copies required, third is to wait tro get fingerprints done and wait about 1.5 months (by courier) to get the card and passport.

I had my appointment made in about 2 weeks (now could be longer) in mid Nov, I got my card and passport in mid Jan and I paid extra to get the shipped by courier. During the document prep process, I need to make copies of:

- first 4 pages of Canadian passport
- back/front of HK ID
- back/front of Citizenship card
- back/front of birth certificate

If you have more, bring and copy them too.

If you want to get the card done by before the deadline, I would suggest you fly back to HK and get it done there, caz I think it is kind of late to make an appointment and wait almost 2 months to get the card.

Philip, do I just phone them to make appointment or I have to show up? What documents are required? What are the fees?

How loung would it take to apply 智能身份證 in HK?
作者: Yes-man    時間: 2012-1-25 10:08

2 weeks. thats what i heard.

I renewed mine a few years back in HK.  The appointment itself is less than an hour.  I had someone else to pick the up new card for me.  If I remember correctly, they need the name and ID card # of the person doing the pick up.

You need all the IDs you can find.

You can call them, but they probably won't answer. I think there is a form on the consulate web site to make appointment online.

Not bad. Spend $160.00 + time and get $800.00.
But now, the waiting list is till August.

They take like 8 applications a day.. LOL.. and I see so many people were rejected/rescheduled due to missing documents.

I blame the visa office not having the right information on the web site to begin with. The girl there told me that "Don't look at the web site, it's outdated, you do what I tell you to, OK!" Speak about service...

Faster to fly back and get it done by March.

YES. Their office is on W Boardway.
作者: jeje    時間: 2012-1-30 01:25

They only do 10 applications daily, so having a long waiting list. They only do smart ID and passport together. They don't give out tickets anymore. They take down your name and telephone number and scheduel for appointment. Now the waiting list in till August. The people will tell you what to bring and how much and how to pay when you scheduel the appointment. On the schedueled date if you did not want to apply for the ID & PP, just give them a call. Even did not call them and did not show up is no problem.

If palning back to HK to get the ID, you can make the online booking. But have to pay for the air ticket & other expenses.

Regardless of the $6000, you can just apply for the passport and ID card.
