Look at pix....this is only aberdeen

6 faregates but only 3 per side

how is that going to work during rush hours and weekends????

DUMB

plus didn't get a chance to take pix at the rmd center station

if you take canada line you know during rush hours that station is pretty crazy

if only 6 faregates I don't even know how people can get in and out without problems

Translink DUMB

IF You think Translink SUCKS please leave a comment here!!!!

I think Translink totally SUCKS....don't even get me started!!!
don't think I can stop

I don't understand this Canada line either....only 3 carts...vs say the Millenium line double the number of carts....and much bigger station...
Not to mention the crappy design of the station....3 different escalator to reach the platform...or 3 different elevator...up and down...up and down (e.g. the Langara station, Oakridge station)

Only 3 faregates....BIG LINEUP I can see!

Btw...Translink people do have good brain...to get extra $$$ from us.

it's all about the money.......XD.....triple the budget.. double the number of the gates for you lo

If they have brainssssss... they would have installed the faregates at the first place... instead of hiring those patrols......

They should cut their high salaries first.

The stations could have been built to accommodate to 3-4 carriages each train.
Then they could start with 2 carriages, then expand to 3-4 carriages each train.
But of course that was going to cost more money to build the stations.

3 faregates not enough?

there are only 4 fare gates on each side of the station in Mexico city and their flow is at least 150 times Vancouver's

I still remember many years ago some city councillors went to Hong Kong and London, UK subway to inspect whether faregates are good for train stations, LOL.

Yes, and No.

Say it takes 4 second to go thru the faregate  (should be less once RFID is in place).  One faregate can flow 900 passengers per hour.  A station with 6 faregates can flow 5,400 passengers per hour.

Canada line can only take 15,000 passengers per hour.

The dumb part is Canada line is too small, not too few faregate.

I believe 2 carriages per train is an optimal design for Canada Line since cost effectiveness plays a major role in this regard. Many of the constraints come from the Cambie corridor... And, in the big plan of GVRD, Richmond is always not involved in the agenda for many reasons... Southwest greater Vancouver is not a proper area for high density population.

Not only more, but way more... And, the worst part is, the line may not be built in time... City of Vancouver has a bigger control of the budget. One of the priority is: The line has to be built on time...

Hmm.... don't u guys think you are contradicting yourself in this thread?

If the capacity of each run is only 2 carts, i would think 3 fare gates are enough already...

It also depends on the schedule as well... At peak hours, when train arrives at +/- 6 to 8 minute intervals, there could have been jams at the entrance.

But...

It doesn't count in the case that if one breaks down? I believe they may need one more each way at Richmond Center... Aberdeen and Lansdowne should be okay with 3.

Years of planning without funding... is still just planning...

Planning that cannot satisfy budgeting... is still, as well, planning...

during the peak hour of Bridgeport station, I always have to 兜大圈(go to the opposed side of the platform all the way to the end, then back to the side I want to go) to get to the platform

the size of the platform just cannot accommodate the amount of people, it was like that 1 year after since Canada line is in service.....don't they know # of people in Vancouver is growing, and # of people using sky train also.............................

You and Fibbi are both right... I can almost certain that the designer must...

1) not be riding bike;
2) not be using stroller;
3) not be a handicapp...

Mostly because these requirements are not being "described" (although mentioned) in the invitation of tender...

I am getting more anti-social by the day.  Skytrain is a small problem.

Check out the mess at Langley School Board.  Politics should never a place when it comes to educating kids.  School Board trustees are operating like 14k?!  There is a very special place in Hell for these people.

Also why no Chinese media seems to be picking up this news.  It is a reporter's dream, if you are looking for juicy news.

You know.... I know a person who works for Translink, she once told me she doesn't use public transit!

I was like, why not you get a free pass because you work for translink, she said yes I get a free pass but I don't take transit!

I say thats dumb..... she told me because I get sick when riding transit, then I was like WTF

she drives to work everyday!!

you see even a person who works for translink doesn't use transit, you can see how good transit really is in the lower mainland!

and then one day we had this discuss about the whole no 3 road 98-B line and canadaline

I told her you guys are wasting $$ to make a 98-B line then take it all out for canadaline....just wasting $$

and then she is all defensive about it.....she is like oh Translink have plans thats why we build 98-B line then take it all down and build canadaline

I was like WTF again!!!

one thing I don't understand is..... you work for this company of course you will say good stuff about this company!!!

but if everyone things the company is wrong, shouldn't you as a person thinks if the company is doing right or wrong???

she doesn't think....she is like I work for this company and I have to say good thing about this company!!!

come on....how many people actually work for a company and doesn't complain about it!!!!

man....she got brain wash by this company!!!

basically when you say bad things about translink she will be all defensive!! like she think she is the CEO or spokesperson for translink!!!

and as a educated person I think she is stupid!!!

by the way I don't like this person anyway!!!

Because she received high pay from Translink (money can brain wash a person easily)

Remember BC Ferries CEO David Hahn...
http://www.canada.com/vancouvers ... 0-aba8-1e347a057172

He earned $1 million yearly (damn, I want such a job, I can choose which boat to sink and still go for vacation like no tomorrow  ---   a one-time vacation payout of $91,062 he received in 2008.)

You are totally wrong! They are planned for such a design...
Use this design for 1 or 2 years and they will destroy all and saying they need to make a bigger one to fit handicap and parents with strollers... By doing that, they can ensure they have projects and works which can last for couple of years.....(and remember more pay every year)
