Puppy can't hold for that long and when some just want to go when they are excited while playing.

How old is your puppy?  Do you have a designated spot you want him/her to go inside the house?  We trained ours to go indoor and we have a pee pad for him.

I guess you can try pee pad inside first and then move the pad outside. So he can associate pee and outside.

it's really about 鬥長命 when it comes to training to potty.....

you don't let him play around the house until he finishes pee/poo poo ga....
or else you have to keep a very close eye on him, as soon as you sense that he looks like he's to pee, grab him right away and take him outside. Praise him after he finishes doing it outside

and puppy's body is still developing, they can't really hold
I suggest reduce the time to every 1-2 hours, and don't bring him back inside the house until your puppy finishes going to washroom ar~ (yes when my doggies when just puppies, I remember staying outside with my doggies for like 30min or even 1 hr waiting and waiting......

B2l2, 小布熊, 嘉嘉: yeah~ we tried to use the pee pad at the kitchen..... But he still don't pee on the pee pad. We only allow him to run free at the kitchen if he hasn't pee/poo..... After pee/poo, we let him explore the house for awhile. We also notice that if he wants to poo~ he will run like crazy~ so we know he wants to poo... But not pee... We don't see any sign that he wants to go pee....sigh.... We tried to take him outside every 1-2 hours... But he sometimes tricked us... He just walk around n even just lay down.... Seems he doesnt want to go pee... Then we took him back inside the kitchen.... And then he pee 2 mins later.... -___-"

I also get some his pee on the pee pad... So he knows that's his pee n should be pee there... But it doesn't work... Sigh...

Oh by the way~ u guys know any good dog trainer program? I want to train myself to teach him more efficiency~

He is 9 weeks old today~ n he just arrived our home for a week~ But he is getting bigger now compare with the first time I met him 2 weeks ago

It is normal for a 2 months old, don't worry.  It is still too young to be consistent.  Our dog show no sign he wants to go pee or poo when we first got him (3 months old).  He is so small that you couldn't even notice he sat down or not until we saw the wet floor.

Just be patience with your puppy.  I agree that you should do indoor training first since he is still so young, and then move to outdoor.  You could still bring him outdoor as often as you could, but don't expect him to learn that immediately now and be outdoor only.  He just can't control and relate things yet.

Another thing, start teaching the pee/poo command.  It took our dog a while to learn that but he still got it while he was 4-5 months old.  At first, guide him to the pad and said your command.  Obviously he wouldn't understand at first, but you just repeat this process.  Do it first thing in the morning, or when you think he is ready to pee in order to increase your chance of success.  Reward him big time when he made it.  Sooner or later he will learn.  Once he learned, we just asked him to go pee pee once a while and that worked as a reminder.  He will all a sudden remember that he need to go pee and he will run to his pee pad.  I then reward him.  (He will even walk onto the pee pad and pretend to go even he is empty, in order to get my treat.)

My dog went to PetSmart for the beginning class.  Yes, it is a class for you more then for your dog.  I think most place will teach more or less the same thing in their beginning class.  We didn't continue on the other classes which are more into obedience training.  Couple of our friends went to TK at Richmond with good results, but I don't quite like his style.  There are other trainer that go with the positive reinforcement style.  We had a private lesson once with that style.

What kind of dog is your puppy?

haha, that's why I said it's all about 鬥長命 la
that usually happens as soon as you think he is not going to pee

We went to TK on river road and cambie
I think the trainer is OK, cuz my mom doesn't speak much english so the place is perfect for her, and we did learn about dog's behaviors and how to train them. And somehow one of my dogs really like the trainer lol

yeah what kind of dog is he?
take lots of picture for him while he's still a puppy! they grow super fast!!!

You have to be patient.. and use strategy. not just forcing your puppy to pee pee poo poo inside the house.  Puppy doesn't know the difference between house and outside.

Say "no" to ur puppy when pee /poo inside. and don't play with him, and get him back to the cage.
if your puppy pee /poo outside, then you give him treats, and play with him.  praise him. hug him.   give him more love.

then your puppy will learn.

yeah, we should have a doggie meeting la~~

嘉嘉: I live in Richmond
作者: 嘉嘉    時間: 2012-7-26 23:17

I am in richmond too, but more close to queensborough area

I usually take my dogs out to off leash park near the airport on saturday~

The McDonald Beach Park seems pretty big.  We never been there with Chico.  We frequent most of the Burnaby off-leash park before.  Now the Queensborough one is just walking distance (but it's small0

I don't know there is an off leash park at Hamilton.  嘉嘉 have you been there?

yeah I have been to that one
but it's more like an unattended piece of land, and not completely fenced in (brought Whisky there once and he almost ran away =_=), not worth the visit
mcdonald beach yup it's big! but even it's big you don't have to worry about cars plus it's just a beach so the dogs can't go anywhere else~

We went to the McDonald Beach last Saturday afternoon for the first time.  Nice area for doggies.  Chico as usually didn't quite like to play with the large dogs (and mostly big dog there).  He just watched other dogs swimming.

It was just a last minutes decision.  but maybe we will go there again this Sat at 1pm (if sun isn't too strong).  Wife has an appointment around that area and we have an hour to spend.

Oh my god~ u guys must have a lot of fun at the dog park.... I havent been to any dog park yet coz my dog hasn't got all the shots yet... Only secOnd shots done. N I can off leash with him coz he will run n chase crazy at the backyard... N he doesnt come back when we call him.... I need to work on abit before I bring him to the park~

Might be we should arrange a dog meet while it is still summer~

I m wondering how many ppl at this site has dog(s)?
作者: puwawa01    時間: 2012-8-6 19:40

Oh by the way~ there's a little good news~ my dog seems to know to pee n poo outside is good... Although there's still accident but good start!!

N bad news is.... He starts to eat the poo poo... If we did not watch him to poo... He will eat it.... I searched on the Internet n ppl said the put some pineapple in his food... So when he poo poo~ the poo poo has the pineapple smell which they don't like it... Is that work? But if they don't like the smell of the pineapple... They are not gotta eat the food as well.....

The pineapple trick doesn't work for our dog (i.e. we had the same problem before).  We also tried a pill from the pet store which does the same.  I remember that worked better.  Anyway, our dog just grow out from it.

What I learn, if our dog doesn't digest the food properly, the poo poo will have a strong food smell which attract him.
I think puppy doesn't necessary go to off-leash park.  The normal greeting with other dogs on-leash is actually better.

For the dog meet, I totally support it.    Anyone?  We could just pick a weekend morning.

Can the meeting in the afternoon?? hahaha~~ i m not a morning person~!!
