*sigh*... got pulled over this morning on my way to work at Cambie and River Road (the infamous 3-way stop)... not because i didn't come to a complete stop while making a right turn... it's because the cop was bored out of his mind and he pulled me over to tell me to roll up my window... and he caught me with my front window tinted...

he told me that i must remove the front tints and show an officer that it is done (he gave me a ticket which i must hand in to the station)... here's my Q to fellow LYKs... do you guys know any good trustworthy place to remove such tint jobs (in Richmond)??? and what's the price approx...

also... it is possible to do it myself... i don't have the experience... i got the tint job on when i was in Kelowna...

many thanks...

You can DIY with a heat gun/hair dryer and patients. That's what I did...

You can also gamble that the cop at the station won't go out and check your car... haha.. when I went to the station, the cop just asked me if I had the tint removed, I said yes, then off I go.

NO WAY... the cop just asked??
haha that's hilarious...
did u retint your window again then??

i thought about DIY and i'm not sure if that's the best way to go... for one... i got zero exp...
and i'm not sure if they took out the entire door / panel to put on the tint... 2nd... i'm afraid they use some special adhesives... and i simply don't think i got the patience to blow and rip...

what's messed up is that my back is limo-dark... and now that the front will be gone... it'll be super ugly... big contrast... kinda wanna remove everything... and then slap on a lighter tint all around... *sigh*

don't take this the wrong way... but why do you want front tint anyways?

notgoddy: i was working in Kelowna several summers ago and it got to like high 30C... and inside the car was like 50... and it's "melting" the dashboard area... after work, when i go into my car... i press the dashboard and it would feel soft (almost like a sponge)... plus the sun in Kelowna is incredible... even wearing shades don't work all that well... and then of coz there's the obvious reasons... privacy and what not...

字典仔: thanks... but i managed to find this guy... he's gonna do it for 20bux / door... i'm seriously in no mood to sit there to blow and rip... i just hope he does a good job... i remember telling the guy in Kelowna to do the back 5%... and the front 50%... but the lucky cop still got me this morning... dang it...

Pooner: $20

i know... so fcuking gay... now that i think about it... i should have done something similar to what you did... i didn't think of the contrast clearly when i had it done back then... it's definitely the contrast that killed me for sure... and it didn't help that my car doesn't have a sunroof to let some of the light in...

yeah... 20bux is definitely worth it for sure... coz i know i'm gonna do a crappy-ass job...
i guess good thing i didn't get slap with a 600bux fine...

for your friend... did he also tint the front??

Why front tint? It's hot in summer here and I have a dark color car. In addition the AC sucks in my car.

If you have limo tint, it makes your front tint more obvious. I like 50/20 so it's balance a little.. but still got caught at the end. Older Civic did came with factory tint, so the cops didn't bother. My friend got pulled over, and the Windows has "AS2" on there, the cop had no choice but to let go.

I undo my tiny easily in less than 20 min. It's hard to put it on but it's easy to take it out. Just heat gun for me. You can try to lightly scratch the tint off and see how much adhesive residue is left. If there isn't a lot, you can try to undo it yourself. To clean the window afterward, just use Goo Gone.

Tint material should be self-adhesive, if the material is strong enough, you can pull the whole thing out all together. If it shredds, you need professional help, those shop that does tint can do it for about $30.

i knew my windows were a little tinted to begin with... but i didn't know that they're already AS2... learnt something here...

but then i don't think i could have gotten off easily... because when i rolled up the window... he saw the little gap from the edge of the window to the film... *sigh*...

my friend didn't have front tint, and i used to have 35% all around, i loved the look but i can't see any door # / street sign at night...haha...

so i have re-done that after 3 to 4 years...

would it be a waste of money to do 35-50% all around then??
considering my windows are already AS2... *sigh*...
such a big headache...
i guess first things first... get them off... go make the RCMP happy... then consider next step...

well...i have re-done mine and my sister's in 04 or 05, i even removed the back 35% tint and tint it again so everything will be perfectly matched up...now that is probably a waste of money

since u have already moved down here, might as well do a solution for it; they have the right to give u a $109 ticket, or VI ur car...that will cost more than removing the tint and then tint it again...

haha... i'm from Richmond... i was only up in Kelowna for one summer co-op... but yeah u're right... don't wanna get slap with a tix... coz that'll definitely be more expensive than removing the tints...

i guess in the future... i'll have the back taken off... then slap on a 35 or 50 in the back... and don't touch the front... coz i know the contrast (too ugly to my liking) will be too great if i leave the 5% in the back with nothing in the front...

btw... i got it done for aroud 300bux... was that too pricy??
but i gotta say they did an excellent job of it...

thanks for all your responses... one more Q...
anyone out there did AS2 + 50%... all around ?

yes, u've got me Traum... we are breaking the law...

but i don't know... if i plan to shoot someone (when they approach)... with or without the tint... i would shoot him regardless... besides, i would not point the gun at him... not very smart... i would wait till he leans down... then fire... lol so jk...

anyways... i'm not doing it to shoot someone... i admit i broke the law... but it's for my own comfort level... as i've explained for the sun... as well as privacy... and then someone mentioned about the temp... which i also agree... i dunno... just having a ****ty week... and am just trying to bitch / lash out here... lol...

For this reason, I didn't bother to put the front tint back.

i love this 50% and 35% combo, doesn't look too dark and just good enough all around (contrast, sun blocking, temp lowering etc); never got any issue with popo...because there is enough light going into the cabin...

but as for privacy, honestly, not much; just harder to tell who u are but if they stare long enough, i think they can still tell if it's a guy or a gal

so i finally got it removed today after work... lol big ass contrast... and then it reminded me another reason why tinting the front is good... because it helps lower the high beam blasting from the idiot car in the back, which reflects off of the side mirrors...

i guess funny story... went to Minoru RCMP... was looking for parking spot... couldn't find one... so pulled up to a cop and asked where's the appropriate spot for me... turns out he was the cop that gave me the warning... he asked me so did i remove it... i said yes... he told me to pull up the windows... i did it... and he said good man and he let me off... LOL...

another Q for you guys out there... when the window comes down now... it seems kind of sticky at first... i wonder if it's because of the glue... any comments ??

You can use Goo Gone or WD-40 to remove the sticky, then use nail polisher to remove the oil from Goo Gone and WD40.

okay thanks... i've only tried using glass cleaners to do a wipe after i got home... and it's so-so... will know the full result when the sun is up tomorrow...

could be left over glue on the window moldings etc on the window, try to clean it a little bit more and dun let the left over glue damage ur moldings, or else u might have an even harder time to roll it up and down later...

seems to be fine now (no jerky-ness)...

but i really miss it... haha... so useful in blocking the sun (when i go to UBC) in the morning... travelling West with the Sun glaring from the East...
and
from the high beams at night...

the sun isnt that bad when going to ubc ma...i am sure going east is way worse

hehe... what i mean is if you go East, you can use the sun visor to block the sun because u're giong towards the direction... but when i go to UBC... the sun is behind me... and it glares off of the two side mirrors and directly onto my face... lol...

nothing i can do i guess... gonna have to tough it out... but just the AS2 ain't enough...

hmm...interestingly i dont have any problem with it...

maybe it's just me and the way i position my seat then... like to sit nice and low...

(i come from Richmond, via SW Marine...)
well this morning for instance... the sun is up and glaring (which is AWESOME... love a sunny day)... but along the highway... tried to change lanes... look at the side mirros before shoulder checking... bam... got blinded by the sun... haha...

i come from richmond via marine too

but i guess i go to ubc quite a bit earlier than you....usually arrive before sunrise...maybe thats why

why do u arrive before sunrise?
you work at UBC or something?

yes i work at ubc since graduation

well for winter time the sun wont rise until like 830...i usually arrive my lab at around 8

haha i see... i tried to arrive at 8am in the past... and i did for half a year... but i have become lazy and don't leave the house till 7:40ish... hence getting here at 8:30...

i just love it when school's out... smooth traffic all the way...
but it's only good for the summer months mostly...

now traffic to and from ubc is not that bad too...when 1st-term classes are done

(i guess we are really OT here)
