HSBC Bank loses 370,000 personal customers details on CD
hsbc.jpgHSBC Holdings Plc. has admitted that a disk containing the personal details of 370,000 customers was lost four weeks ago after being sent by courier from the bank’s offices in Southampton. Details on the lost disc included names, dates of birth and life insurance cover, but not addresses or bank account details. The banking officials are in a Euphoria and say "There is no reason to suppose that the disk has fallen into the wrong hands," This is not an isolated event and private data had been earlier compromised by loss in transit. Whats really surprising is the use of primitive methods of data transportation by such premier institutes, why can't they just encrypt the data and upload it?作者: ketchen 時間: 2008-4-7 21:43 標題: I'm not surprised
Maybe they hired too many under-skilled & under-paid comp sci co-op students to program their software. And, whenever you buy RRSP or Stocks from them, they fax the paper copy to a center and manually input it into their old-fashioned, black & white DOS systems.
Most places like Royal and TD are using web-based as front and back end systems.作者: shinnrhyme 時間: 2008-4-8 00:31 標題: ....
