I got that news yesterday. but I don't believe in it.
Until my coworker's HK friend just confirmed with her.
according to my coworker, her HK friend got the news from radio

I still can't find any news from the internet yet, Website still functional. em.

　【本報訊】以廉價機票千元直飛倫敦作招徠的廉價航空公司甘泉航空，在港開展業務至今約一年半，日前傳出周轉不靈將結業的傳聞。甘泉香港航空行政總裁苗禮士昨向本報表示，有關公司倒閉的消息純屬謠言。他說，「我們做得非常好，但一家新的航空公司總會面對各種謠言。」

　但他承認，公司仍未開始賺錢，「航空公司是長期生意，我擔任港龍CEO的時候，港龍也用了4到5年的時間才開始賺錢」。「我們做得非常好，財務狀況也很好，一切都在掌握之中，下個月會按計劃接收新一架波音747並於6月份投入服務，7月和9月還將新開歐洲和澳洲航線。」

　苗禮士透露，甘泉香港將以逐條航線的方式實現盈利，預料倫敦航線年中盈利，溫哥華航線今年底開始賺錢。「(策略投資者)惠理基金和我們有定期接觸，我們也在尋找新的策略投資者。」

　甘泉航空市務總經理王灝鳴回應時亦否認有關傳聞，重申甘泉航空業務如常，首航至08年初已接載逾30萬人次，成績與預期相近，不明為何傳出結業謠言。王灝鳴強調集團因應市場有所需求已訂購新機，其中第5架新飛機將於5月抵港投入服務，未來亦計劃在倫敦或溫哥華以外，再次開拓全新航線，暫定開拓澳洲或歐洲等廣受港人歡迎的旅遊目的地，詳情稍後公佈。

oh my, it is true. My friend in Hong Kong just total me Oasis is stopping all flight on April 09 2008. She heard the news from Hong Kong's radio just now and she called me.

甘泉航空公司副分銷總經理馬陳婉儀表示，公司高層正開會，現階段無可奉告。甘泉航空在東涌東薈城辦公室，早上有職員上班，他們未有回應有關報導，只是說公司稍後會有公佈。三間代理甘泉機票的特約旅行社都表示，未收到甘泉結業的消息，仍會接受顧客訂票。消委會表示，正了解事件。

well, it's very simple:
CX has tons of routes & flight, plus a big corporation support (Swire Group) that allows for a huge economies of scale and scope advantage:
-i.e. because of bigger output and operations, they are able to spread their fix cost across every unit of output and every line of operations
-plus, they are a dominant player in this little oligopoly market, and they can make consumers perceive a higher quality and therefore, offer higher prices. Especially for business and first class.
-to put it simply, their perceived quality & economies of scale/scope allows them to earn a consistent profit

In terms of Oasis, I truly believe it's a lost to consumers if they run out of business.
It will definitely reduce the level of competition in the Van-HK route, and the remaining airlines, especially CX, will gain back their lost market share and not have to withstand the price competition that was put up by Oasis. If anything, a market that's less competitive is only beneficial for the supplier, almost never for the consumer.

On the same note, I think it's highly possible that Oasis will run out of business...not that I want it to, but then it does provide quality services (as I heard) for a much lower price; it was a great shock to its competitors. However, for the last year, I've only seen oil prices go up every second, and Oasis ticket price has almost not gone up to match the increasing variable cost.

Sad news. But still hoping that it's not true

Oasis Hong Kong to Meet Press After Closure Report (Update4)

April 9 (Bloomberg) -- Oasis Hong Kong Airlines Ltd., the 17-month-old budget carrier, will make an announcement at 2 p.m. today, hours after the Hong Kong Economic Times reported the company may stop flying because of losses.

``I'm not in a position to make an announcement at the moment,'' Chief Executive Officer Stephen Miller said by phone. He declined to comment on the newspaper report, which cited unidentified people.

The closely held airline has accumulated losses of as much as HK$1 billion ($128 million) and is losing more than HK$1 million a flight, the Hong Kong Economic Times said. Oasis would be at least the fourth global airline to stop flying within two weeks after the price of fuel surged 73 percent in the past year.

``If Oasis is in trouble, then others surely will follow,'' said Martin Marnick, head of equity trading at Helmsman Global Trading Ltd. in Hong Kong. ``It does go to prove what a high- cost, low-margin business this is.''

Oasis began flying to London in October 2006 and added services to Vancouver a year ago in a bid to challenge Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. It initially offered tickets to London Gatwick for as little as HK$1,000 one-way, less than 20 percent the price then charged by Cathay Pacific for flights to Heathrow.

The airline is unable to take bookings at present because of problems with its reservation system, an agent said when called at the company's sales centre. Customers should call back after 2 p.m., the agent added. It was impossible to book a business-class seat to London via the company's Web site before the end of this month. The system said no flights were available.

Seeking Investors

The budget carrier said last month it was in talks with investors as it sought funds to help start as many as three new routes this year. The airline sold a $30 million stake to fund manager Value Partners Ltd. in October.

Value Partners doesn't know if the carrier is going to close, spokeswoman Teresa Yu said by phone.

The carrier has raised fares about 20 percent in the past six months and intends to carry on increasing them, Miller said on March 7. It has also boosted fuel surcharges about a quarter to HK$518 per flight over the past year.

The carrier has four Boeing Co. 747, according to its Web site. It planned to more than double the fleet to 14 by 2011, it said last month.

The airline was set up by Chairman Raymond Lee, a minister and property investor. He and his wife were among backers who committed $100 million in funds to the airline before it began flying. Unlike low-cost short-haul carriers, Oasis offers passengers free meals and in-flight entertainment. It charges extra for soft drinks, and also offers business-class seats.

U.S. carriers ATA Airlines Inc., Aloha Airgroup Inc. and Skybus Airlines Inc. have also ceased operations since March 31 amid surging fuel prices and slowing travel.

The price of jet fuel rose 1.8 percent to a record $137.35 a barrel in Singapore trading yesterday.

廉航甘泉航空申請了臨時清盤，並委任畢馬威會計師行進行清盤，尋找新的投資者。甘泉所有航班停飛。

甘泉舉行記者會交代申請臨時清盤事宜。首席行政總裁苗禮士表示，甘泉已委任畢馬威會計師行進行臨時清盤，接管了該航空公司，正尋找到新的買家，他有信心可找到新買家。苗禮士感謝員工及顧客在過去16個月來的支持。

畢馬威會計師行代表杜艾迪表示，他尚未看到甘泉航空的收支情況，而據苗禮士稱，他們兩條往溫哥華及倫敦的航線，有近99%的負載量，而甘泉約有近700名員工。

至於已購買機票的乘客，可否取回款項，杜艾迪稱，這很難說，因為如甘泉正式清盤，公司將要對所月債權人負責，包括僱員、銀行及乘客。他表示，在召開記者會前，已要求公司關閉所有訂票服務，以免乘客購買機票

杜艾華稱，對於今晚及其後數日購買機票的顧客，他們正與政府及業界商討解決方法，稍後才能作出公布。

甘泉航空於2006年10月首航，當時因飛行路線問題，航程受到延誤，未能準時出發。有報道指出，甘泉由於低估經營開支，令公司已虧損逾10億。

網上訂票者嘆倒楣 2008年4月9日

甘泉航空剛推出溫哥華直飛香港航線的時候，曾大力宣傳其網上訂票服務方便快捷，而不少旅行社也承認，這間航空公司的網上訂票服務算是較多顧客使用的一間。列治文吳小姐便是其中一個貪其網上訂票方便的甘泉客戶。吳小姐昨日在大嘆倒楣之際，在未等甘泉作出正式公布前，已急不及待預訂了另一航空公司的機位。

自認倒楣的吳小姐表示，昨日聽到傳聞後，立即與信用卡中心聯絡過，發現她於3月初預訂的機票，剛剛在前日已經過數。她說，之前為了確保拿到好位，她還特意每程多付30元預留座位，石沉大海的足足有874元。

吳小姐說，因為今年是她父親的70大壽，她是無論如何也要回香港一趟。於昨日聽到甘泉有可能倒閉的消息後，她還未來得及擔心那874元，便要憂慮能否在訂位情況爆滿的季節中，找到另一張不太貴的機票回香港向父親祝壽。

吳小姐指出，不盡快訂也不知其他航空公司會否在沒有競爭之下調升價格，而更擔心的是怕到時所有訂了甘泉機票的人爭相搶購其他航空公司機票。

因此，在甘泉作出正式公布之前，她昨日已急不及待致電旅行社，預留機票。「想到那874元，以後也不敢自己在網上訂票。」

甘泉航空昨日成為溫哥華老友記討論區的熱門話題，引起一連串的迴響。

清盤！甘泉停飛
透過旅行社購票可申賠償 2008年4月9日

【明報專訊】甘泉航空申請臨時清盤，並委任畢馬威會計師行進行清盤，尋找新的投資者。甘泉所有航班停飛。至於已購買機票的乘客，可否取回款項，會計師行稱，這很難說。昨日上午已有消息指，昨日下午6時從溫哥華飛往香港的航班抵達香港後，公司就要停飛。本報記者昨日下午趕往溫哥華國際機場查看，從在場的地勤人員處得知，當天下午飛往香港的甘泉航空一班飛機已經順利起飛。但被問及今日是否還有航班，則顯得很不確定。

甘泉在香港舉行記者會交代申請臨時清盤事宜。首席行政總裁苗禮士表示，甘泉已委任畢馬威會計師行進行臨時清盤，接管了該航空公司，正尋找到新的買家，他有信心可找到新買家。另外，甘泉設立熱線電話供乘客查詢，香港熱線852-36280628，美加地區為1-888-983-0808。

國泰航空周二在香港宣布，為甘泉乘客提供特惠機票，未來兩星期預訂機票的甘泉乘客，由香港往倫敦及溫哥華，要補2500港元；而由倫敦抵港的機票則補160英鎊，溫哥華到港的則補320加元。

畢馬威會計師行代表杜艾迪表示，他尚未看到甘泉航空的收支情況，而據苗禮士稱，他們兩條往溫哥華及倫敦的航線，有近99%的負載量，而甘泉約有近700名員工。至於已購買機票的乘客，可否取回款項，杜艾迪稱，這很難說，因為如甘泉正式清盤，公司將要對所有債權人負責，包括僱員、銀行及乘客。杜艾華稱，對於今晚及其後數日購買機票的顧客，他們正與政府及業界商討解決方法，稍後才能作出公布。

自從甘泉航空停飛的消息傳出之後，本地不少已購票的公眾均十分擔心賠償問題，紛紛致電旅行社查詢。對此，大溫本地旅遊業界向公眾大派定心丸，指透過旅行社購票的客戶如果未能獲得所購入服務的話，可向消費者權益組織(Business Practice and Consumer Protection Authority，BPCPA)申請賠償。不過，BPCPA不保障自行於網上訂購機票，因此上網訂票者，只有自嘆倒霉(見另稿)。

本地旅遊業界都表示對甘泉航空停飛的消息感到突然，指事前並沒有收到任何通知，直至昨日下午稍早時還可以繼續於網上為客戶查詢航班情況及訂位。不過，稍後便陸續收到有客戶致電確認在香港已謠傳多日的甘泉航空停飛消息，及查詢相關賠償情況。

怡家旅遊負責人Kenneth表示，凡是透過旅行社購買服務的公眾，如果未能獲得所購買的服務的話，均可向BPCPA申請賠償，但沒有透過旅行社而自行在網上訂票的公眾，便不受BPCPA保障。

世運旅遊負責人吳過偉妍就表示，不少人因為貪價錢平，或是因為彈性較大等原因，因此於網上自行訂票。不過，這些人並沒有意識到於網上買票其實是沒有保障的。

吳過偉妍說，旅行社不單提供個人行程安排服務，業界也需要繳交款項，貢獻BCPCA的旅遊保險基金。而這基金便可保障顧客於突發情況。

For those who think the closing down of Oasis will not affect ticket prices, please think again.

Before Oasis arrived into YVR, Cathay prices were rather high, and once Oasis flew here, not ONLY did Cathay lower their prices to match that of Oasis', but they also added 1 more daily flight to/from HKG...lowering prices and adding an extra flight just to try and kill the competition, i must say it was a smart and not really profitable move by Cathay, but now that Oasis is finally closing down...the rest is history.

All i can say is that i worked with Oasis and their passenger loads were rather low for the past couple of months (with the exception of Spring Break of course), so this was expected, we just didnt know exactly when.

Now for those who never thought Oasis would last or that they were doomed from the start, good for you. but you never thought of it the other way around. Oasis' presence was a threat to the other airlines, therefore, competitive pricing, and during high peak seasons (spring break, christmas, summer time), it relieved some of the traffic and allowed more people to go to HKG. Now with Oasis gone, you will see ALL jam-packed flights on Cathay and AC, plus SOARING ticket prices...so bravo Oasis-haters, your wish came true

If Oasis found a buyer SOON, then it will be likely that they can still provide the service in July/August, but it has to be SOON!

If not, then go through your credit card company or travel agent to get your money back and book another flight.

Chinese airlines may be interested to buy Oasis. But I am not sure if the service will get downgrade if they really bought Oasis, well .... not that Oasis has good service to start with

I bought a ticket from them but paid with a HK credit card, does anyone know if I can get the money back from my card company (Bank of China)? I know you can claim the money back from card companies here but how about HK?
