前幾天在 Facebook 上看到某意大利 Deli Cafe 的 Garganelli with braised duck, cheese fondue, pickled chantrelles, 我這鴨痴就是比這道菜吸引住心神,所以今天便抽空去試一試這小店的意粉,到達時大約是下午三時半,幸好在鋪前找到一個泊車位,泊了一小時

此小店雖然說是在 Gas Town, 但她卻不是在 Gas Town 的中心,她是在 East Cordova 街頭 (68 East Cordova, Vancouver, BC ),假若不是朋友介紹的話,每次駕車經過也不知道

當我推開 Cafe 的玻璃門後,我先被鋪在地上的綠色地毯及那個充滿著新鮮香草的凍櫃,之後更被那些五花八門的食物在專櫃中弄得我心怒花放,怎樣也估不到此小店,麻雀雖小,五臟俱全,她的 Deli Counter 有很多 House made 的新鮮意粉、Preserved Meats (Pancetta, Porcetta, Duck Confit), Olives, 芝士及三文治及其他甜品, 不單加此,在乾貨部則有一些高品質的 Oliver Oil, Vinegars 及 Flours 等

看完了所以陳列品後,我乖乖的找一張枱子坐下來,之後十分 friendly 的 waitress 為我送上是日 menu 及飲品 (free ice water on the house), 當我仔細看過 Menu 後,不見到有 Garganelli with braised duck, 當我問過 waitress 後才得知今天沒有這張菜,當然有點失望,不過前菜有 smoked duck salad,所以便先叫這道 Salad 先

不消一會, Smoked Duck Salad 就出現在我眼前,顏色十分誘人, 那些 Plums 可以中和 smoked duck 的肥膩,而那些 spiced walnuts 加火箭菜則「開」了小弟的胃,之後再問 waitress 小姐廚房今天有沒有 fresh Papparadelle Pasta,她告知我沒有,但好人的 head chef, Chris,問如果我有時間的話 (需時15-20分鐘),可以立即製作出 Freshly made 的 Papparadelle, 最後我告訴 Waitress 小姐我要一客 Fresh Pappardell with extra garlic cream sauce (no meat and no cheese), 這種造法是最簡單但卻是最美麗的, Chris 煮出來的作品則是香氣撲臉,十分之可口,之後還買了 150 gram 的 Fresh Pappardelle 加一隻 made in house 的 duck confit, 因為巳經飽了,所以她的甜品留待有機會下次才試

Just next door is Nicli Antica Pizzeria which is the "mother restaurant" of Vicino.
I heard a lot of good things about Sardine Can but haven't try it yet. But I like Sean Heather's restaurants (e.g. Irish Heather. all in that area).
Notturno Paninoteca is also on my "wishlist" but haven't got a chance to try it yet.

I like Nelson the Seagull but some may think there isn't enough "meat"/portion in their food. I like that building and their veggie/vegan options.
       
Love L'Abattoir and Wildebeest; like Cork and Fin, Boneta, Cartems Donuterie, Milano Roasters, Nicli, Peckinpah (go only if you like dry-rub BBQ. not the juicy/saucy kind); like cocktails at The Diamond (prev barman at Wildebeest now).

further down east, love Alibi Room for snacks and craft beer, like brunch at Two Chefs and a Table and then Big Lou's for meat shopping + quick sandwiches.
