So my friend's family is coming back to Van from HK. The parents are Canadian and their daughter was born in HK so she is Canadian by default. She is 11 and going to finish her elementary school (in HK) this year. What is the best path for her to take if she doesn't want to waste time in repeating? They ask for my help but I am totally clueless. Can anyone help?作者: randommike 時間: 2012-11-2 21:53

going to finish elementary this year, you mean finishing this academic year (2012-2013)?
what do you mean by waste time in repeating? at age 11, the kid should be in grade 6 or grade 7.
for my own case, I came to canada when I was 11 as well. It was March and I had a few more months before I finish grade 6 in HK. I came here and continued my grade 6 education then moved onto grade 7 same year in september.作者: Yes-man 時間: 2012-11-3 22:44

你朋友的女兒是 "非加拿大出生" 的加籍人, 需要帶齊文件去District Reception and Placement Centre註冊.
Grade 1 to Grade 12 students born in Canada, and who DO NOT speak English as their home language. Note: Children must register with a parent or legal guardian at DRPC.
or
Kindergarten to Grade 12 students born outside Canada, regardless of language spoken at home. Note: Children must register with a parent or legal guardian at DRPC."
Actually she will be going to Burnaby, hopefully Burnaby South. I suppose the process will be pretty much same? Is she going to take any assessment test like English? Any further tip for me will be very helpful 作者: satil 時間: 2012-11-4 23:03
