I have seen many mainlander (can tell by their accent) stocking up formula in Metrotown Superstore...

Well...I got some formula from amazon...I guess if mainlanders flooded here to start stocking up, we still got a choice to order online from the States.

Shoppers want 'American-only' hours at Costco!

By Amanda Sloane

NEED TO KNOW

We’d all do just about anything to save a buck, right? And for Canadians near Bellingham, Washington, that means crossing the border and snagging some pretty great deals at the local Costco. Add the weak American dollar to the store’s awesome prices and there are some deals that are hard to resist.
But American shoppers aren’t too happy about the influx of Canadians in their neighborhood store. They’ve launched a Facebook page with over 3,000 likes so far, calling for their own special time to shop.
Canadians say Americans would be doing the same for similar deals in their country and they're quick to point out that they’re flooding the American economy with money and jobs.
But Americans are complaining about and posting pictures of crowed parking lots, ridiculous lines at the gas station and checkout lines that go halfway down the store.
Video also shows people snatching up gallons of milk as soon as they’re unwrapped from pallets. One commenter calls it “milk madness.” Another suggests putting in a “milk drive thru just for Canadians.”
HLN affiliate KIRO says the store goes through about two semi-trucks of milk each day. It’s a great deal for Canadians who say they’re basically able to get two for the price of one.
The drive for these deal-seekers isn’t so bad, either: the Vancouver suburbs are only about 25 minutes away but others are traveling up to an hour to get to the warehouse club, according to KIRO.
A senior VP for Costco told CBC News that the store isn’t looking to change its policy and a spokesperson says they’d love to expand.
How far would you drive to get a good deal and what items would make it worth the journey?

水貨客 in HK = Resell and make money
Canadian @ US Costco = A real shopper who is looking for cheaper price

水貨客 in HK = messing up the whole damn city in HK, the whole city has milk shortages
Canadian @ US Costco = only affecting a few towns in US, US still has milk to sell.

to be honest a lot of people made the assumption that 水貨客=mainlander, which is actually untrue.  A lot of Hong Kong citizens do the same to make profit.  The best policy (luggage limit across the border/ train station) by far is already in place, they just need to really reinforce the rule.  Plan B is to have all milk powder manufacturing company to print 平反六四 on the can, then I bet nothing will get across the border.  Period

I don't think your idea about printing the 平反六四 to those cans would work but your idea is very interesting

Yes, this is just my point. I don't think people in Bellingham will have milk shortages problem. They just don't like to see so many Canadian shopping at their town.

But in HK situation, you can't find a can of milk for their hungry babies. If you are a parent, you will understand how important to have enough milk at home all the time.

As a Canadian myself, I know I would not do the same to hurt our American neighbour. It only  save a few bucks to buy milk and it took a lot of effort to drive and cross the border, plus, I don't think my fridge is big enough to store 5, 6 big carton of milk...

From web:

From apple online news, some "water goods" people are willing to pay whatever they sell +$40hkd per can. I dont know how much they sell in China, but if I am the parents from mainland China, I'd rather buy the baby formula produced from other countries for my kids even though they charge much higher than the local baby formula

Exactly,  from a mother's perspective I totally understand why mainlanders hoard formula milk (not just HK, all over the world indeed).  And talking about "shortage", IMO its more likely caused by the supplier/ supermarket holding it up from the shelf - When you see these people transporting loads of formula milk CONTINUOUSLY the shortage is just BS

well....breast feed is popular here...when you have one year mat leave....

But I do formula feed my baby only ...

You can "pump" milk and store ga ma ... and always have surplus .. (that is why some people sell breast milk) tim ...

I can understand people need milk powder sometimes, i.e.: when mom is on long business trip .. serious illness .. on drug .. or the mom is dead etc  ..     also .. when a baby is 5/6 month, will start eating, and around 9 month, can drink normal milk, which can buy anywhere ..

So .. why flight for Milk Powder with mainland people? I can understand IPHONE .. HK people buy them, then flip to China for profit ..

(same question, I dont understand why China people crave for milk powder that much ..  but their culture is weird too .. even SALT ..  will buy tons and tons .. )

just to get enough milk supply is a super painful process (lucky if your wife went through smoothly).

The recommendation for homo milk is 1 year old...not 9 month wor...
and in HK (or China too) they believe they should have formula even till like 2 (so that's why the stage 2 or 3 formula also in hot demand). I barely find stage 2 formula here...

I say let them have it all...   http://www.csmonitor.com/Busines ... er-death-of-newborn

The reason why they don't have enough baby formula was due to their stupidity anyways to only buying "name brand" that is not even that good anyways.  Just like medicine, regulation forced them to have exact ingredient 95% of the time.  So if they want to spend more $ to make themselves feel better.  Go ahead.
