Police are investigating a targeted shooting Wednesday evening that left a man dead steps away from his vehicle in the parking lot of Surrey’s busy Morgan Crossing mall.
Just before 7 p.m., police received reports that a man had been shot several times outside the Steve Nash gym, according to Surrey RCMP Sgt. Drew Grainger. Click here for more photos of the targeted shooting
Police arrived at the mall – located on 24th Avenue at 160th Street — within minutes to find the man already dead and the shooter gone, Grainger said. The public is in no danger as the incident has all the hallmarks of the gang-related hits occurring throughout Metro Vancouver in recent months, he added.
“It’s a very popular mall and, with the fitness centre there as well, there are numerous pedestrians,” Grainger said.
Police have interviewed several witnesses who saw a person approach the man, who was in his 20s, shoot him several times in the upper body then jump into a dark Jeep Cherokee SUV and flee east down 28th Avenue, Grainger said.
It is unknown whether the shooter was alone or with a driver, Grainger said. There are no suspects at this time.
The mixed-use commercial and residential centre has close to 6o stores and was filled with shoppers during the shooting.
“There would have been many persons there, so again we have another example of a brazen public shooting,” Grainger said.
Police cordoned off the crime scene, but a yellow tarp covering the man’s body was still visible beside a white Mercedes SUV with its driver-side door ajar and a bullet hole in its windshield.
Surrey has had more than 11 murders in 2013, the majority of them gang-related, according to police.
The RCMP’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the investigation and said it would provide an update today. 作者: tiffiant 時間: 2013-4-25 06:49
