Long story short, the cashier asks customers for tips and threatens customers they are not leaving the restaurant if tip is less than 10% of bill.
I keep this short because I just don't want to waste any more of my time on this once famous and legit restaurant. Something has totally changed. For more reviews go to urbanspoon...

I have to admit, many of their waitresses's service attitude are bad, really bad, but their food is good (*)

This (*) note is saying that, taste, is very subjective, so if you don't have much feeling/memory about old school hk fast food (maybe you were not growing up in HK) and u dont get along with their HK style service, don't go.

I just ignore their service attitude and I just treat my tips are some extra $ that pay for their food as well, definitely not service. there are about 2-3 waitresses are OK about their attitude though, and the boss as well.

Again, that place is very very hk style, food and service, so if u dont care about those, forget it. I would keep going, since I miss hk style food and many other so-called hk style cafe in vancouver/richmond, simply not so hk style IN MY POINT OF VIEW LOL

yes 港式奶茶, 味道唔錯.

家庭式做法, 產品幾精緻.
我每星期六都去食早餐, weekday間中食lunch.
Mon-Sat 好似係 8am-3pm, #202-7080 River Rd, Rmd

Are you growing up in hk? if so, and if you always went to those 大眾化 hk style fast food (old school ones), u shouldn't be that disappointed about the services.

yes old hk style cafe don't charge for tips and cheap but hey, I think (yes, I think, taste are subjective, after all) their food is closest to the taste of my childhood. I always went to those cheap, dirty hk style cafe when I was a kid and 麗都 is the only one that can bring some of my memory back. Many other so-called hk style cafe I have tried in Van are just quasi-hk style cafe. Food, services, decoration, etc.... and most importantly, their hk style milk tea sucks!!!!!!! old and sucks!!!!

if u want better service yet and have SOMEWHAT better quality food, you may like 雅谷/銀座. But, to me, those can't give me the feeling of hk style cafe.....

Please read my first post again. The cashier THREATENED the customer. I don't really care how good their service or food is. If they did this to me, I would have called the police. I will let the police find out how exactly they are not letting me leave the restaurant.

in your first post, you said something have totally changed? well, their attitude are always this s-h-i-t-ty. Always.

About the tips problem. I suggest you call the police if they really threaten you. If they really threaten you in front of that many customers. That would just cause serious damage to their business. Was the boss their when that thing happen?

Brothers and sisters , I agree 麗都餐廳 is one of the worst in Richmond area. Food quality is BAD and the attitude from waitresses are RUDE. This is my first and last time. At the end, I gave them 25 cents for tips and the male cashier just looked at us but did not bother to say anything.

Under the criminal code of canada, if they refuse to let you go or obstruct you in anyway to leave, this is an illegal confinement as you have paid for the food already and you DO NOT owe them a dime. You should have called the police and let them deal with it. Dont bent over and give in, giving them extra tips as they dont deserve that.

correct me if I am wrong. I bet the one who threaten yes-man should be the waitress and I think I can pin-point some candidates in my mind. I don't think the boss would do that since a boss with a normal IQ wouldn't do that to his customer just for a few bucks of tips but then do serious harm to his business.

Servers care more about the tips than bosses

Ya I notice quite a few cafes are doing this. Why do the bosses think they deserve so much tips? Is it just because they can? Don't they think this might affect the quality of service their staff provide? Too much greed........

Not only hk style cafes... I read that the Glowbal group is also doing that to their servers. I avoid them

there iis a chinese seafood restaurant close to tropika on landsdown mall. three owners take 36% and their little 3 take 21% so how much left for those who really work hard in the restaurant, that is why you always see new face waiter there
