I just wanted to change into a "loud" and thick exhaust pipe! Anyone can tell me where and how much?? (Mine is a Honda Civic)THX!

35k + tax for the car
20k+ for mods lol

Not gonna do it again tho.  If I buy a new car, i will probably do minor things like getting new wheels, body kit and that would be it...

I'm relatively cheap. I'd rather spend more $ on the car than mods. I do have a small list in my mind: trunk lip spoiler, illuminated door sills. I think the door sill costs $1300 for stock but I'll wait until there are cheaper OEM ones. trunk lip spoiler I think it's about $400.

IN US$

I spent approx $5.5K on Coilover/Swaybar/Endlinks/TB Exhaust/SPT Intake/SS Brakelines/EM

Maybe another $1-2K on installations, EM Tuning & corner balance

$0 other than required maintenance and DIY car detailing. I used to put lots of money into car mods, but now, I am too old for that and am not going to dump money into any depreciating assets.

I used to drive fast too, but now all the fire is gone... i have been driving in the last two weeks without ever revved over 2000rpm. Extremely smooth but still faster than many other cars on the road

about 50k for the car and 15k for mods

Agree!
It's stupid to dump money into depreciating assets.
or a set of nice wheels with coilover, the car will look much better already.

I think I am kind of old for that kind of stuffs too, but then I started late...!  Not that I have rich parents to sponsor me doing mod or my 1st car!  Yet, the good thing is I look forward driving my car everyday, which I think is an important part, since we all spend so much time commute to work everyday.  So far, my daily route isn't too bad, very little traffic, some up/down hills, twisty, and a small part of local hwy to floor =P

PS: I try stick with 10mph+ above speed-limit, but would go faster when cornering..but I wonder when I will loss my fire....!!

I'm too old for mods...LOL...too loud or too stiff hurts...

I just want a nice quiet ride...with some power, but not too much that it hurts my wallet when I fill up...heehee

IMO, too much mod is a waste of money (unless you're racing), just buy a better car to start with is smarter.

Hi Shutterbug,

I am sure you would be fine with the right mod.

My exp. is that many people mod. their suspension with cheap lowering springs only , or at most put in some cheap struts.  That's just wrong...!

I invest lots of my time finding the correct suspensions mod. for my STi cuz I know I gonna have a baby on board.  Well...the STi stock suspension actually have pretty harsh ride..!  The coilover I ended up with actually provide better ride quality, and better handling.  It's firm, but not harsh..!

I kind of agree about buying a better car to start is smarter, but I think there is more to it.  It's more important to buy the correct car for the job.

Many of my friends actually drive Lexus, you can tell they have very little interest about driving.  For them, they just want luxery inside, ride quality, reliability to get them from point A to point B.

Traum + Others, wanna share you mod experience.?

Man ..  I told myself I will never DIY again ..  took so much time ..  but I was half way done .. intake part isn't too bad ..  but BOV .. took me like half day ..

For just $500-600 labor ..  I should let technican to do it for me ..    but I was inpatience!  and I think I screw up the MAP sensor too ..

Sway bar isn't the best way to fix roll problem. Sway bar is suppose used for the final adjustment. You should be using shocks and springs instead of sway to attack the body roll problem on your NC.

yeah... it was stupid to mod the car... I don't know why I did that...

next time I will look for a car that won't give me any excuse to mod.  Currently looking at the Evo, but it won't be available until July LOL, wtfbbq
作者: Catpiano    時間: 2008-5-9 16:05

It is a "STEP" when you were  young .. you would do something stupid ..  when I was young ..  my car is my car .. and I thought that is the only car I hv for my life ..  so .. spending thousand of dollars on it ..  and thought is was cool ..  and fun ( lots of DIY ) always think, spending $5K on it ..  it will be better then another car worth $5K more ..  but .  I was wrong ...

I can't understand kids spending $10K on his $5K worth Civic ..  however, it was fun, part of the hobby, like building models .. etc ..  it is a "RPOJECT"

Sigh ..  old now, like everything close to stock, if spending too much money on a car, better trade it up for a better one, since there are always better car around!

interesting mod, i believe u are saying D16Y8, i dun think there is a stroke up kit for D16 to D18...

are u using k&N oe replacement or intake? i have noticed all SOHC civic with intake is actually slower than stock setup with K&N or other performance air filter...

custom b-pipe, are u running D16Y7 header with Cat, or you have also replaced it to D16Y8's header + cat setup? switch over to D16Y8's setup helps even with Y7 motor...

u know 99 SiR's RSB (Rear Sway Bar) is only 13mm, right? i would say there is no diff to "add" that cuz i dun even feel much with SiR RSB and no FSB (front sway bar); yet i couldn't stand how fun the car is with ST 19mm RSB and no FSB, i was drifting crazy at auto-x and lucky i have LSD! after a 2nd thought i decided to use FSB again

get ACT clutch, i had so much fun when i was running my D16Y7 with Si tranny, Si exhaust setup (OBX header + Si cat and OBX b-pipe and 5 Zigen fireball muffler...the car responses very well with Si intake manifold too...
作者: xelloss    時間: 2008-5-10 21:39

Oh...I type something wrong guys....is d16y7 (non VTEC, civic EX engine) to d16y8 (VTEC 99 civic Si engine)....not D18..there is no such engine by the way...ha ha ha
I just want to sawp a MT tranny at first...but the guy told me hey...do you want a better engine for your car? it just like few hundard  bucks more..and if you just sawp the tranny, you have to buy so many parts seperatly...so...the best way is just swap the Y7 to the Y8.....and also, the one they've got is pretty new and good codition d16y8..so, I swapped that...no perticular reasons that I WANT to go for the Y8...I rather go for the B16A2 (99-00 SiR engine)...the bottom line is...i want MT rather then AT....

And ya..mine is just a K&N stock replacment.. I also notice that if i use a short RAM, it has actually slowed my car at low RPM..since i'm having just a SHOC.

My CAT and header is the oem parts from that D16Y8...and custom cat back...I like that car's respons now...at least good enough for street.  I think it is pretty fast as a 4 door civic...those K20 swap and B18 or B16 or Turbo civic do not count...

ACT clutch is $$$, i'm thinking aobut Compititon Clutch...

[ 本帖最後由 xelloss 於 2008-5-10 21:44 編輯 ]
作者: 字典仔    時間: 2008-5-11 09:43

B16A engine is ok for your car, not anything fast; i almost did a B16A swap cuz B18C was soooo expensive, ended up i decided to go BIG and got a B18CR, now i didn't regret after 5 years with few track day with it...it's FUN...

yet anything from B16A to B18C, u are paying a different level for maintenance, gotta give the car much more care than you are running a D16Y8 and if it got stolen then u are screwed...

i used to use Si's header and cat on D16Y7 and use OBX or DC header with Si Cat on Si, feels good; as for custom cat back, do u know the size? 2" is ideal, 2.25" is pretty maxed out already...

try getting a rear camber kit for your car and tune its alignment, that's one of the best mod i like to correct understeer; downside is u have to know the offset of your wheel cuz rear might rub (i think i have used 15x6.5 with 40 offset, it rubbed)...also a 19mm rear sway bar is an ideal mod too, dun go 21 / 22mm as the rear subframe will crack...

ACT clutch ain't that expensive and i think it's worth the price, but Exedy Stage 1 is quite good too and slightly cheaper...

really wanna try those Hypersingle or Supersingle some time, but i still have an Exedy 3 puck sitting in my room
作者: xelloss    時間: 2008-5-12 11:40

wow... 字典仔...your car seems have a lot of mod too...

I do have rear camber kit...forgot to put it on the list.. it's the Blox one, now running on -1.5 degree, toe 0 degree. Feel good when cornering.
For the offset, my wheels are +45, 15x6.5, but can't run 205/50/15 tires...rubbed badly..now it's running on 195/50/15. very nice...planning to run the Yokohama S.Drive when this set is finished.

My custom catback is 2.25.  I know that's the right size for just a N/A....
ppl keep saying that if your sway is ticker then 13mm / 14mm, you must had a sub frame reinforcement (like ASR). you don't afraid of the sub frame will be cracked if you are using 19" ?

well i have been auto-xing and tracking my car since 00 or 01? was doing quite a bit of auto-xing but tracking is too expensive so usually once a year, twice at the most?

i was running -1.3 for front, -0.8 for rear, 0 toe front and rear 205/50 with 15x6.5 45 offset as well...no problem at all...is your car too low? lol

i am running -2.1 front, -1.4 rear, 0 front toe, 0.05 rear toe; yet i have also done a 5 lug conversion and haven't got new rims yet...was using Desmond EVO Regamaster (which make SPOON rims), can't have anything aftermarket worse than that lol....

well...i am also running 2.25" with a B18CR motor, so go figure?! that's why i had a ITR b-pipe (i think is 2") before when i had my D16...there are many diff kinda N/A, can't set them all up in the same way...

i have no problem with my suspension techique RSB (19mm, not 19" ), have been using it for at least 3 to 4 years now?! i know ppl with 21 / 22mm will crack the subframe and need sth like ASR reinforcement....
作者: xelloss    時間: 2008-5-15 21:52

I don't know if my car going too low..but I think it is ok...not "ricely" low i guess (could you tell from my little profile pic?)...ha ha..but when I was running the RT-615...it just rubs..but for the D motor, 205 tires maybe a bit too big and too sticky for it...the car launch pretty slow, and now the the 195 tires which responds pretty good  .

by the way, what do you drive,字典仔 ?

seems only me and you talking in this topic now..ha ha ha
