With fast 3G wireless technology, GPS mapping, support for enterprise features like Microsoft Exchange, and the new App Store, iPhone 3G puts even more features at your fingertips. And like the original iPhone, it combines three products in one — a revolutionary phone, a widescreen iPod, and a breakthrough Internet device with rich HTML email and a desktop-class web browser. iPhone 3G. It redefines what a mobile phone can do — again.

3G speed. Worldwide.

3G technology gives iPhone fast access to the Internet and email over cellular networks around the world. iPhone 3G also makes it possible to do more in more places: Surf the web, download email, get directions, and watch video — even while you’re on a call.

How it works.
iPhone 3G uses a technology protocol called HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) to download data fast over UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) networks. Email attachments and web pages load twice as fast on 3G networks as on 2G EDGE networks.1 And since iPhone 3G seamlessly switches between EDGE, faster 3G, and even faster Wi-Fi, you always get the best speeds possible.

Talk and browse. At the same time.
iPhone already gives you mobile multitasking. But 3G technology lets you multitask in more places — without connecting via Wi-Fi. Since 3G networks enable simultaneous data and voice, you can talk on the phone while surfing the web, checking email, or using Maps. All from your 3G cellular network.

Go anywhere.
iPhone 3G meets worldwide standards for cellular communications, so you can make calls and surf the web from practically anywhere on the planet. And if you’re in an area without a 3G network, iPhone connects you via GSM for calls and EDGE for data.

More wireless. Less space.
iPhone 3G delivers UMTS, HSDPA, GSM, Wi-Fi, EDGE, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR in one compact device — using only two antennas. Clever iPhone engineering integrates those antennas into a few unexpected places: the metal ring around the camera, the audio jack, the metal screen bezel, and the iPhone circuitry itself. And intelligent iPhone power management technology gives you up to 5 hours of talk time over 3G networks.2 That’s some of the best in the business.

Maps with GPS

Find your location, get directions, and see traffic — all from your phone. Maps on iPhone 3G combines GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell tower location technology with the Multi-Touch interface to create the best mobile map application ever.

App Store

Tap into the App Store and you'll find applications in every category, from games to business, education to entertainment, finance to health and fitness, productivity to social networking. These applications have been designed to take advantage of iPhone features such as Multi-Touch, the accelerometer, wireless, and GPS. And some are even free. You download them wirelessly and can start using them right away.

199 is the unsubsidized price i think (price in apple store)

so if you are willing to stick with a contract...the price will be lower

i guess i will go to the states to get one cuz i am in a contract already...

Don't think it will be that easy to get one to unlocked now... you have to activate in-store when you buy it.

New iPhone on sale in Canada July 11

The original iPhone: As of July 11, it's so 'yesterday'

Richard Dettman
Canadians eager to get the world's hottest gadget in their hands should circle July 11th on their calendars, when the (new) Apple iPhone will go on sale in this country, 13 months after the iPhone debuted in the U.S.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs has unveiled the iPhone 2.0, which is thinner, surfs the Internet twice as fast, and has GPS navigation, in addition to being a touch-screen phone, e-mail device and media player.

The new iPhone will sell for half the price of the current model; $199 for an 8-gigabyte model and $300 for the 16-gig.

Analysts say one reason for the price drop is subsidies from wireless providers such as Rogers Communications, which will offer those prices on a three-year contract.

Watched the keynote today at work, basically what Apple wants is to mass deploy the iPhone. They have been working with the industry to make it work on corporate enviroments. It can even ActiveSync to Outlook, obviously they are going straight into the WM based SmartPhone. We can see that Apple will be using the iPhone as a tool to broaden other Mac products.

However, Apple is treading on very dangerous water as it is also competing against PMP and portable markets. Nokia tried the gaming business with N-Gage, which failed miserably. There will be no doubts that the iPhone may reduce market shares from various companies such as Nokia, SE, HTC, Sony and Creative.

Let's not forget that the real cost in Canada will be how much the phone/data plans cost. Aren't iPhone plans already in the $60 - $70's range down in the States where data traffic is quite a bit cheaper? Our Canadian rates are more expensive, so this $199 iPhone stuff is all meaningless until Roger-Fido unveil their iPhone plans.

haha... finally have somewhere I can use my 130 bucks of fido dollars

I think the stock supply is more questionable than anything else.

I'm not worry about iphone stocks...I can wait...but...I'm keeping an eye on AAPL stocks...will probably shoot up like crazy

Exactly, just wait for a few analysts to upgrade AAPL or increase price target. Once you cash out, that alone can get you a few iPhones.  But AAPL is doing quite well recently that I cannot justify to sell anytime soon... so until I get my realized return, i will have to stick with my old iPhone.

Is it a good time to buy Apple stock now? It sounds like Apple is one of a few stocks worth buying these days.
作者: pkphilip    時間: 2008-6-10 18:12

If you want to use your Fido $$$ + contract, you must talk to Customer Relations. Otherwise Fido $$ applies to full price of the phone.

But the stock rebounded today as they realized the potential of new Apple products.

LOL @ ppl thinking iphone will be cheap, cuz its announced at $199

there is no way to purchase the 3G iphone w/o a contract, i much rather pay $399 for it and purchase the phone without a contract!
作者: homer    時間: 2008-6-11 21:41

To the OP, it's actually a bit thicker, not thinner, than the 1st iphone.

Also engadget reported that unsubsidized iPhone is at €499 (8GB) / €569 (16GB) in Europe.  Works out to be around US/CAD $773/$881.
作者: sacky    時間: 2008-6-12 13:05

some rumors ive heard is the phone will be 199 on a 3y contract with a 3g feature of $25 for 300mb of data! these are still rumors and i am waiting for more news =] but heads up for all u that waiting very eagerly
