what kind of job do you want to get?...research?....industrial?...or just anything?
作者: 快樂牛郎    時間: 2008-6-15 13:16

you can be a QA for food companies.
作者: angeldevil    時間: 2008-6-15 16:03

celeron_266> research...

快樂牛郎> QA?

thanQ guys!!!!
作者: celeron_266    時間: 2008-6-15 16:59

ok if you want research...grad school is your best bet...yes the pay sucks...but its pretty much a requirement if you want to go further...no matter its academic/industrial...you need at least a masters degree to get research positions..with just a BSc you can only land at technical positions (ie technicians)

on the other hand...although the pay is not as good as you think (expect about 20K per year max)...depending on supervisors...you can be extremely flexible on your working hours...meaning that there maybe some days when you have to work for 12-16 hours per day...but if you dont have anything to do...you can just not go to work at all

also the chance of getting fired is relatively low as long as you have some work done...making mistakes is basically a routine for academic research...so supervisors usually dont really care (unless the experiment is extremely important or your stuff is really expensive)...as long as you do it right the next time

you probably wont be able to start this sept...if you apply now you will start in janurary

i have a biochem degree and have been in academic research for more than 2 years already...i have also done industrial research for one year...so if you want more info...feel free to find me

QA is quality assurance...for food companies there are usually  QA and/or QC (quality control) departments that makes sure that their products meet their requirements....again...these positions are technical positions....most people who work in QA/QC dont even have university degrees (they usually get a diploma from BCIT as technicians)...and its very hard to "go further" in your career (you probably will go up to the head of the QC/QA department if you work for 10-20 years...but you probably will have a slim chance to go to senior management positions)

but seriously QA/QC is the most comfortable job ever!
you do need a university degree (we work in radiopharm. company) and if you need to advance to corporate you do need an MBA

but just start somewhere and let your company pay the MBA tuition for you!

yup QC/QA is nice cuz you dont have to think....do the same work every day...some people may find it comfortable...but some may find it extremely boring...

i guess the degree requirement depends on the nature of the company....most QC techs in the company that i worked in (food/pharmaceutical) only have BCIT/college diplomas

so so true!

if you want a higher pay and EVEN more comfortable job... take a safety course/certificate and be the safety guy for the lab.  I bet you can use your spare time at work to complete a degree.

workload     Production        >     QC          >        Safety
Pay          Production        <     QC          <        Safety

Ho wor. worth it ga!

I don't think QA pay very well... but it'll get your foot into the industry and you'll probably go find better jobs elsewhere after you've gain some exp.

Recruiter is probably the easiest way since you just go for an interview with the recruiting firm and they'll do the rest for you. Recruiter makes money from employer, so it's free for you!
