The car had Diamond Coat applied when it was new, but I've heard that they don't really last forever as claimed... right?

The car body does seem not as shinny as before...

So.. what's the best way to maintain the body from now on?

Some suggested Clay Bar + Wax every 1.5 - 2yrs, really? ?

Anyone of you used those new liquid wax before? how well do they work? Are they ok-effective?

Lastly, what's "detailing"? What do they do? and how much do they usually cost?

睇你點keep車同用咩wax啦
好多時d wax last 唔到半年

1.) well, I keep my car in indoor garage and that helps a lot
2.) oh yes, I meant those 'wax-as-u-dry', spray one.

2-3 yr .. .paint should still look like brand new wor .. no matter diamond coat or not ..

May be rain a lots, so your car is not as shinny? put some zymol wax on la..

detailing involves many techiques, clay bar, cut polish, fine polish, hand wax, wet sanding etc etc...

3 years depends on how much u drive, how often u drive it should still be fairly new; normally i go back to my detailer every 1.5 to 2 years for a detailing and he will reapply paint seal

wax as u dry only helps u to maintain, so u have to use it almost like weekly

a interior shampoo is always good as well cuz mold builds up thru melted snow and wet shoes over the winter time; that's probably one of the other reason why i want detailing lol

I really want to try that Mother Clay Bar thing....but I scare that I will damage the paint or scratch th car somehow...

xelloss: clay bar is not hard to use, just make sure if u accidently dropped it to the ground, it's DONE...dun reuse it ;)

shutterbug: I normally take it to my friend, i used to go to him since i was working in a shop and he works for Jim Patterson for those high end trade-in etc...he does private work for me and my friends on the side

If you have not done any detailing to the exterior, be prepared to pay big $$$ for it. My friend charges anything from $250-$350 on a full service detailing.

If you have not touched your car ever, these are the steps you can do if you want to save some $$$

1. Strip wax - wash your car with dish washing detergent, it will remove pretty much all wax on your car. You can also try to go to touchless wash, same idea.
2. claybar - it picks up all the gunk and sticky stuff from the car body
3. wet-sand - check for scratches, and wet sand with 2000 nit sand-paper, use rubbing compound to restore the shine, repeat if still look dull. You may want to use a electric buffer for this.
4. Cleaner Wax - this should remove any contaminant on the paint
5. Sealer - This is also called synthetic wax, it seals the surface
6. Carnauba Wax - this will add a deep gloss shine and protect the sealer.

As you can see, it will take you the whole day if you are fast to perform all the steps. If you wax regularly, you can selectively do some, and it will save you a lot of time in the long run.

I've seen many people found out they have more scratches/dents on the car after stripping the wax + claybar, they all give up and just apply sealer instead. hahaha

The Mother's Step 1, 2, 3 system is the same idea.

my friend charges $250 to $350 normally too, but he always give me a discount, final price varies between diff cars

I help out my husband to use clay bar before. It's relatively easy but just make sure that if the clay bar got dirty then flip it inside so always use the clean side (so it won't scratch the car). His steps are: Washing, clay bar, apply cleaner wax..then another wax with machine. That could be a two-day job. A very good exercise indeed!

Suggestion: Walmart in US and Chucks has good price/selections than here. I go down once in a while to buy cleaning supplies.
