I go to this Japanese Fushion sort of resturant in Richmond, run by a japanese lady who does all the cooking from scratch...and her food taste excellent!
But, when theres more than 4 table at the resturant...things get a bit slow...I mean REAL SLOW..

The resturant is call BonQuRa~ its located at the mall opposite of 'Kam Dol'...sort of next to the sport store

I recommand their sandwich in the afternoon~ it is sooo good !! $10 dollar, but its big portion~ ^^

If you want traditional style sashimi/sushi restaurant, then I'll go to seto.

If you want izakaya style, I'll go to zakkushi or sakura-ya.

I like these two as well. ^_^
But I haven't been to yoshi for years. Last time I had their multi-course dinner and it was VERY good.

It's hard because they are so small. They can't serve many tables at the same time.

WHAT is that big black thing!?

It's a piece of heated stone for grilling the super thin beef tongue.

I suggest going to this small japanese resturant In Ironwood.. Steveston highway.
The mall has two jap resturant, the one i'm suggesting is the one beside timhorton and sleep country. Across Cantire i think.
Small place, but food is fresh, run by japanese ppl.. might need to wait.. I remember they close early (close at 9pm i think). Price is very reasonable, portion... average..
作者: Alcoholic    時間: 2008-1-9 22:15

week ago, i went to Takumi.
so FRIGGIN far now that they moved to west van....
the drive there, i felt like 藤源拓海。。。driving  into 龍貓村 just for sushi.
we were all b!tching about it...but after dinner, if we ever wanted to eat traditional japanese style sushi, i would definitely go back there only.

they're the one originally on North Road by Lougheed in coquitlam.
to my surprise, after they moved, their quality of sushi actually got even better!!!!!!!!!!
(sorry no pics, haha...)
but i remember that their hours of operations are:
monday - closed
tuesday - closed
wednesday to sunday  - open @ 5pm - 11pm
something like that. you will understand why they don't open for lunch & closed so many days when you arrive at that place.

as for price, it's rather pricy for sets such as assorted sashimi, or assorted sushi...& noodles/rice. but by piece, the price is relatively the same. they also serve fusion style japanese food. but we didn't try because all we wanted was a good meal of traditional japanese food.

is 王將懷石料理 all you can eat worth to try?
作者: mandip4u    時間: 2008-2-18 19:55

My favorite is Nan Chuu in Richmond (sister restaurant with Gyoza King).  A little pricy, but EVERYTHING taste good there.

Also Manzo is good too: it's own by chinese, but the 老闆娘 can speak fluent Japanese (as far as I can tell) Reasonable price and very good Kimchi Fried Rice... yum!

Maruwa Sushi. I think it's okay... limited Selection of cooked items

But I know if you like fresh scallops it's quite nice
作者: dumbo    時間: 2008-2-18 22:40

I personally like Octopus Garden.  If you are willing to pay the price ($100+), they are willing to cook some amazing food for you, e.g. Foie gras sushi, uni shooter (very yummy)...  I had it once.  10 course meal.  Fusion.  But their raw items are just fresh and sweet!  especially uni and prawns.

if u want to find quality Jap food, u should not go any all-u-can-eat so-called jap restaurant

Yep, it's not a "real" japanese restaurant. But talking about all-u-can-eat, still worth a try ga bor! They carry quite a few yummy (and pricey) sushi rolls that can't be eaten from similar type (all-u-can-eat) of restaurants. Yet types of sashimi are a little limited. Taste and quality pretty good among the field.

Oh! This one on North Road! I used to go there when I lived in Coquitlam (for a few months) years ago.

Even in Japan they have all-you-can-eat Jap restaurants. But many sushi and sashimi are nearly tasteless anyway. It is such a waste of the seafood.
