no, he is using it to track missiles on his boat. and you need NASA engineers to install it into his boat and allow it to fly into space also.

btw, garmin is a good brand

There are many applications for GPS, there are marine, topo and road... The question is legit.

As to how to add to a car... you can use the suction cup that comes with it or buy a HU with GPS.

2.  do you need bluetooth function?
3.  do you need voice Recognition?
4.  do you need extra tools?

I use Tomtom....pretty good, easy to use interface.

I use garmin which is pretty straight forward to operate. Garmin and TomTom probably are the best u get for North America nagviation (in Canada for consumer anyway).

I also use Mapking in Hong Kong.

I find that the text-to-speech function is very useful too, so make sure to get a GPS with it.

I like text to speech too. When I focus on the road I won't look at the GPS device screen all the time. So the voice is a good reminder la.

I think voice recognition =/= speech

voice recognition = you talk to the GPS
speech = GPS talk to you

I highly recommend Garmin 250W (no text to speech) $199.00 or the 255W (with text to speech) $299.00
They both have lots of language & interface choices including Chinese interface & Cantonese & Mandarin voices.
If your mom is going to use it in Chinese mode, then save your money and buy the 250W because it cannot speak the street
name in Chinese mode anyway. Go and take a look in Bestbuy yourself and ask for a simulation & see for yourself. This is a
good time to buy because you get the latest 2009 maps.
I have both and I think the software and routing is better with Garmin and the screen is beautiful. Garmin is very easy to use
& you don't even need to read the manual. Make sure to get the "W" models with the wide 4.3 inch screen - much easier to see while
drving.

I won't recommend the Garmin 350 3.5" because it is a discontinued model & you might not get the 2009 maps. Also the new models has new & better screen interface and also calculate routes much faster. Please see my previous post a few minutes ago.

I like the 255w and 650, i am trying to decide which one to get.

Maybe you can call garmin to see if they can get you an udpated map for free if the model is an older one or discon'd. .

Just called garmin, they said customers can update to the latest map within 60 days of purchase, even the model is discontinued.

I am using TomTom One, and I added a 2GB card, and now I have TTS with the latest TomTom Core, which is better than the original TomTom One. Just kind of slow, but after it is loaded, it is fast.

多__餘啦﹐GPS好似手機一樣﹐用得一兩年可能換/壞。其實邊洗成日upgrade新map呀﹐300幾蚊加稅都幾貴。我上網買都係200﹐我用兩年買過部新好過啦﹐我連warrenty都費鬼事要﹗

you might want to check what free upgrade is, which doesnt mean you get an updated map for free.

I think Tom tom is soso...coz I use it for a trip from LA to San Fran,is soso only.seem to hard to get the signal
