請問大家﹐若是有朋友過晒期未拿身份證﹐
入境時﹕

用舊身份證 (過期N年的) 或是
用PASSPORT﹖ (他持特區護照)

上網查過資料﹐說要證明那段時間不在 HK﹐可是我不知他該是哪段時間的﹐大家有無資料呢﹖ 他出生年份是 1964。

說要證明不在港﹐叫公司寫封信夠唔夠呢﹖ 以前我是帶齊銀行資料同 PAYROLL的﹐但因他十多年無返﹐要帶會很多﹐大家有無好提議呢﹖

his hkid is invalid.  is his持特區護照 still valid, usually it is only good for 10yrs. is your friend a canadian, he can use his canadian passport.
1964 或 1965    2004年1月12日至 2004年3月13日身份證
for that period, you can use payroll or visa statement.  for the whole 10+years period, you can use t4 or noa.
they just asked me where was i, but didn't ask me to proof it.  because i think it is quite common

I am not sure if you need to provide them with the proof because HK Immigration should have your record about entering and leaving HK already.

About the year of birth - 1964, you can check the following website
http://www.smartid.gov.hk/tc/replace/index.html#02

If you need to provide the proof, then the proof for the above period should be enough.

About invalid HKID, just use the old one since your friend was not in HK at that time. If he/she also has HKSAR passport, also brings it back to HK

入境其實唔係好理你﹐你有passport就緊係用passport啦。何必要用個過左期既身份證呢?

但係換身份證又係另一個程序﹐分分鐘要你prove好多野同要你等好耐都唔奇﹐要有心理準備。

I don't have any problem to apply the new HKID. Don't have to provide any proof. Just told them that I was in Canada for the past few years. The officers were very polite!

did your friend born in hk? if not, they will request more doc. from your friend

I used Canadian Passport to enter HK. I didn't have any problem.
And when I applied for the new HK ID, they never asked me WHY I didn't get it renewal at the assigned time.

I used my old HKID card to enter HK without any problem. I was only told that it's invalid and I needed to renew it asap.
When I went for a new ID card I just wrote on the form that I was living in Canada and so I didn't renew it earlier. The officer there was very nice. He even asked me how I felt living in Canada.

If you use your old HKID to entre, You have to change it within a month. Mine is invalid for few years, when i renew it, I brought my school confirmation letter. But the officer didn't read it. He just renew it for me

If you don't want to change to new one, use Canadian Passport, then you don't have to renew the HKID within a month

also depends on how old is his hkid.

my grandma hasn't been back to hk for around 15 years. when she went to renew her hkid, they requested her to proof she had been lived in hk for more than 7 yrs(she was not born in hk). they said her record was too old and not showing in the system?!?, also the hkid was changed few versions already. so i think if your friend is holding just the previous version, it should be ok. but if he is holding the previous +++ version, he may need to prepare more doc.

if he is entering hk with canadian passport, they will only allow him to stay in hk for certain days(just like other visitors), you friend will need to get the new hkid before the expiry date, otherwise he may get caught.
