We have to make our own Chinese mayo sauce to counter these Japanese. We just can't let them steal our traditional tastes.

We can make our own curry, chilli mayo, and mustard mayo.

cool! I want to try try soon.
Is it more like okonomiyaki or takoyaki?

btw Mayo is originally french... i have never had any thing "chinese" that is even close to mayo.

So the Japanese are using French stuff, why can't we? so these foods are not even Japanese stuff.
chilli mayo? anyone can use chilli, and mayo is French. so this is not Japanese at all.

I think we are already using something similar to mayo -> Miracle Whip. All the HK style "salad" has lots of Miracle Whip in it. (HK style fruit salad, potato salad, shrimp salad...etc)

not bad, but the inside stuffing is tasteless, only the sauce gives it the taste

Spaghetti was not originally invented by Italy/Italians,  yet you can have it in every "Italian" restaurants. So what?
The term you should learn is "fusion". Who really cares the originality of the food? As long as it tastes good!

Me and friend went there today at around 8pm, arrived just when they were about to close.  The truck was located on this empty parking across from Rona.  The owner said the business was pretty good today, so he decided to close earlier.  (According to the sign, it normally closes at 9ish)  We ordered two original flavor of bakudanyaki, but the boss was very generous that he gave us one more for free.  ^^

This is my first visit.  Initially, I thought bakudanyaki was like the 燒餅 sold by 右京 in 亂馬1/2, but it turns out that it is a gigantic version of takoyaki.  Anyway, the taste was pretty good, aside from octopus and seaweed, there are egg, fishcake, cabbage, etc. inside the “ball".    Each bakudanyaki costs $5 (tax included), and one order can definitely fills up your stomach.  After this snack, we were done for dinner.

Do u know if all their bakudanyaki has shrimp inside?

I know, that is why fusion is not something new, but has existed for thousands of years. That is why we can make some Chinese hotdog.

I meant, I don't care if those so called "Japanese hotdogs" "Bakudanyaki" were originally invented/created by Japanese of not, as long as they taste good.

Of course you (not we) can run a business of making your Chinese hotdog if you like, and tell us how many of your customers are amazed by your product/creation and how good your business is.

um.....there are a few reviews on how it tasted already -_-

it ok to have a try, but it would be better if they have sauce inside the 'ball'.
my favorite is wasabi mayo!

Exactly! I just bought 2 this afternoon.
1 ball definitely for enough.
And I think it is too "溜"
maybe too much mayo

i like mayo! i wish there was more mayo.. haha
but it's not THAT great. i don't mind having it again but i probably won't be craving it very often..

finally tried it with my hubby. we ordered 1 original and 1 wasabi mayo. Both are very yummy. Worth a try..

i like the tiny takeout boxes too.. cute.

not amazing but i like it because it's the only of its kind in vancouver and i like to support the idea so will definitely stop by if i want a quick fix after badminton on my way back to vancouver~

i tried wasabi mayo and it was good! will try another flavor next time...

I went yesterday... Around 6pm

He said since it's mothers day they have "cherry blossom" favour, so I tried it...
They don't have the boxes anymore, just a "BIG" plastic cup...

The taste is ok.. I don't know what cherry blossom taste like, but the sauce is a little sweet, taste like mayo + a little bit of red sugar.   I do agree with above mention, the insides should have a little MORE taste....

I know... totally looks like those "sugar" you find on top of Chinese desserts (Ko Lick Dou Sar)... I wish I had the original....  But I will try another favour again since I LOVE all the ingredients inside it, they have most of my favorite foods.....

Went their a few days ago, turn out that I know the owner, 100% authentic japanese, and all the ingredients are order from authentic japanese supplier.  Personally, I don't think it taste that good and not many chooses, but will go their to handout from time to time.  They told me they're planning to expand, maybe another trailer selling japanese deserts or drinks.

Maybe enthusiastic LYK can start up a business selling MK style food like curry fish ball, fry smelly tofu, shark fin bowl....etc  at that location, so we would have a new place to go for   food.

All 3 carts (tenku bakudanyaki, shoryumen and fumisen) are there. they're at an indoor location now - indoor being that the carts are parked inside a warehouse-ish unit. there are also 5 or 6 tables with chairs inside the unit for people to sit and eat their food without being exposed to the elements.

IMO, i prefer this new location to their old one. this location is just right off knight bridge so it's closer to a lot of vancouver folks yet still readily accessible by richmond people. they should be getting more business now that they're right smack in the middle of a dense business park area.

if only they could do something like what ice cream trucks do - drive their carts around town, and when they pass by your place of work, u can flag them down. Then, u can order what u want and then eat your food while it is still fresh, all without having to give up some of your lunch hour to drive out for food.

but hey, it's a nice dream =P

but it seemed that their food quality went down.. they changed the ingredient of the bandanyaki, it had mochi in it before, now they changed it to rice cake. -_-"

and the new location seemed so dirty compared to 1st location.. when it's windy, the sands are everywhere...  I prefer the original location..
