if i just want a civil wedding ceremony, not a religious one in a church. what kind of choices are there??

i can only think of golf courses and community centres... but they seem weird... or that's actually very common?

any recommendations?

For how many ppl? do u want some tea snacks after the ceremony? like a cocktail thingy??
作者: 布小熊    時間: 2009-4-28 14:39

park is another choice. but there is the risk of bad weather.

it should be no more than 100 guests. we don't want any tea/snacks after the ceremony. it's going to be a place with a nice view for pictures (afterwards).

i suppose your friend had to rent that area in QE park, right? how was it? was it nice (the area) and how did the pictures turned out?

My friend had her wedding at London Heritage Farm last year. Another friend had her wedding at a golf course a few years ago.
You can also have a civil ceremony in a hotel banquet hall (with chairs and the wedding "stage" set up)
A lot of lyks are having church ceremony because they or their other half is religious.

Raima,

The QE Pavillon doesn't look nice to me.. I went there in Feb when I was deciding on the ceremony venue.. I still have their price pkg if u needed..

You dun want church becoz you are not religious right? but even if you are not religious, you can hold it at a chapel. For nice pic taking after the ceremony and nice environment.. i would recommended Minoru Chapel or Chapel at Stanley Park.. they look great...

The price are ranging from CAD$900 to CAD$1500 (can hold around 60 to 120 ppl) no snacks afterward.. pkg included those commissioner and a bit decorations & music..  let me know if you need the full details~
作者: katamari    時間: 2009-4-28 15:31

you can marry in any united churches if you are not religious.
作者: 布小熊    時間: 2009-4-28 15:37

I was browsing randomly and found this site. I think the list may not be the most objective (not sure if they need to paid to get listed) But it will give you some idea of where to host a wedding other than at a church.

Try to take a look UBC Cecil Green. You can have outdoor wedding or on the patio (if rain), nice park, and staircase, house as the backdrop. Good for photo.
100 people should be ok. You don't have to get the food package I think just rental + basic coffee/tea package would be ok. But price is not cheap either.
I had my wedding in golf course.

There are alot of places you can have the ceremony, as long as the commissioner is willing to go there...

You can have it @ home, any hotels, art gallery or even science world (after business hours).

You can book hotel suites for this too...
Sheraton Wall Centre has very nice view
The Metropolitan Hotel have a nice penthouse suite - with access to patio

etc...
作者: meowmeowmeow    時間: 2009-4-28 18:13

It really depends on your budget and how many ppl are attending ^__^!

There are a few side factors you should consider:

Parking
Accessibility
traffic
clean up (decor and where to dispose the garbage)
etc.

they do, but their min cocktail reception is $5000.. or rent their gallery for around $1500 or $2500 i think.
can even go for a dophin show! (hold max of 300 people i think) but $1000 for a 20 min show lol~

capilano suspension bridge do wedding ceremonies too
have it done on a yacht is nice too, but then, higher budget of course..

i heard that some ppl could hold their ceremonies at the kitsilano beach, but you cant reserve seating or place because it's a public beach or something like that.. so basically ppl would need to go there to 'BA' spot and location with minimal decoration?

If your parents/in-laws want more tables and exceeding your budget, try to ask them to pay it first and you repay them when u get the red packet. If you dinner is not very expensive, the red packets should be enough to cover it.

Hycroft manor is really nice but it's even more expensive than Cecil Green. Cecil Green is somewhere around $1500 but that's the price 2 yrs ago. Have you chosen your reception yet? Cuz you don't want the ceremony and reception to be far apart. You can also try Stanley Park. Ohh..and nobody mentioned Convention Centre yet, it got such a breathtaking view. If you are thinking of more than 100 guests, both celebration pavilion and minoru will be too small for your guest size.

Btw, the stanley park is around $2000
the good thing is I find it very pretty and elegant. They include a live pianist or your choice of a Harpist for $100 extra. You have a choice to let them cater after the ceremony - that way you can elimiate the night banquet and have the wedding finish by late afternoon as an option. You can stay inside if it rains or take beautiful pics outside at the stanley park blue lagoon just steps away. I liked the one stop for everything deal. Lord knows how much easier that is with the one stop shop!!!!!!! Budget wise, if you can save time and your guests from all the traveling, parking, decorating both chapel (it needs minmal decor coz it's so nice already) and banquet. It's actually cheaper!

I hired a flowerist who was so nice to create a fresh flower arch and set it right outside of the chapel for me to step out and take pictures with guests after! Her price was more than reasonable in even doing decorations and various bouquets!

I'd like to have harp in my wedding too. But it's too expensive la... So I end up having string quartet instead.
I originally considered Cecil Green (I have reserved the date), but then when my mom came visit, she doesn't like it. So I have the ceremony in golf course instead. The good thing about golf course is that they have ballroom (good for rainy day), and outdoor garden. Great for picture taking. With the finger food package and beverages (order enough beverages will waive the rental), it's about $35 per head + $1000 beverages (large ballroom) or $500 (smaller ballroom).

Actually I'm not really a big fan of outdoor wedding. If it's too sunny...guest will use umbrella...and pictures won't turn out as nice. Or people can't wide open the eyes for picture. It's kinda weird for the bride/groom to wear sunglasses right?

If it's rainy, then I don't need to mention la...kinda messy... both for the wedding party and the guests...
As for the food serving outside...often there are bugs flying around...and sometimes the WIND blow off stuff...

During the photo session in my wedding (which took place in the patio garden), my skin all became RED and burnt after 30 minutes. I don't think I really enjoy it.
作者: chobit    時間: 2009-5-7 12:29

I am sorry to hear that..!  I have done many weddings where they are semi-outdoor, as they have covers...

However, I think outdoor is good only at the right time and seasons.

eg. You don't want to have your wedding at noon in July-Sept, but it's great if the hours are during the late hours probably June/Oct or even July/Sept

作者: jusumsuen    時間: 2009-5-15 00:26

I want to have my ceremony at the outdoor, but it's seem hard to find a nice one that is affordable.  Most of them are over $1500 with designated caterers.
I think that's the average rate, but I still think it's expensive.
Anyone knows a good outdoor ceremony site that's not too expensive?
作者: Butterfly    時間: 2009-5-28 20:26

you may try Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club. Outdoor ceremony fee is $900 but you'll have to have dinner banquet there as well because if it ends up raining that day, your ceremony will be held indoor which is the banquet room that you'll book.

do you want food to be served or caterers?
If not, you can try London Heritage Farm if you are confident on the weather. (e.g. summer wedding would be fine but not in Oct - May)
It's pretty reasonable. You can rent chairs and tents from them.

I have thought about London Heritage Farm too, but I have never been there, so I have to check out the place first.  The rental rates look good to me.

My wedding is in Sept, and I'm going to have it in the Golf Course.  I think its very pretty to have it outdoor (if its not raining), because vancouver has such beautiful outdoor scenery, so any outdoor places would be nice.  You can also think about QE Park, Botanical Garden, Whistler etc etc.  It really depends how much is your budget.
