Went to buy bbq duck. On special for $15 / duck. Gave the cahsier a $20 bill. While waiting for her to give change. She and the owner told me to choose which duck I want. While I was choosing, she went to servce someone else.

After the duck was choped and packaged. There was no sign of the girl giving me the change. So I asked for it. She said: "mo ar! you gave me 3 x $5 bill wor!". My husband who was standing fr. a distance walked over and said: "No, I gave my wife $20 bill before we walked over to your store.". This cashier pointed at my husband in a very load tone of voice: "He gave me 3x $5 bill geh!". But he was standing in a distance and didn't even come near! By this point, the owner and another girl, so total 3 of them started to dispute with us in a very load voice! My husband and I had to tell them to calm down. We are not arguing with them but just to make sure there are no mistakes. ...

aiya...i had to break the story off coz i had to log out of the work pc to go home ar ma! Now that I am home, i can continue la!

Yes, the one next to the malaysian place.

The owner didn't even see the process of money paying because he was busy cutting the meat. He dared to speak in defense saying we are honest ga! When you give us the money, we would say how much we got from you like: "sau nei $20!". I kept telling him to calm down as he was causing a scene! He went on saying how by my accusing, it will rack his reputation and customers will think they are crooks....blah blah blah.....
The snotty cashier keeps giving us this defensive glare! The other girl who's nicer just kind of told the owner to quiet down.

We decided to leave because it wasn't going anywhere. it was mouth and nose argument. Although we told them that it HAD to be a $20 bill given due to my husband had no cash and just got some cash from the ATM and they don't give $5 bills. As we were leaving, we can still hear their blah blah blah....

We went off some place to shop. But the more we think about it, the more we feel "ng fun hey!" It's not even the $5! It's totally not worth for us to argue with some low life about that small amount! We feel so pissed that they "wut" my husband! They made us feel like they are the customers instead!

My hubby decided to give up but I persisted! So I stormed back there. Half way to the store, i saw the nicer girl. She asked me if I had find the $5 bill that they gave us. I was thinking: Didn't the cashier say she got exact change from me? So during the conversation earlier and the question now, plus, the accusation of my hubby was the one that paid. This tells me they weren't even sure themselves but just got defensive! I told this girl that I was gonna let it go but I am not prepared to be "wut"! We walked back to the store. The cashier who was so "ba ja" didn't say a word but turned her back to me. The owner didn't say a word either when they saw that I came back, they must know I mean business! When I was about to open my mouth, they all looked away! The nicer girl handed me the $5 bill and said "ng ho yi si". I glanced over and saw that they were calculating money from the cash register.

The mean cashier lang mui didn't even say sorry, neither did the owner! How dare they made it seemed like we were the ones at fault!

I told my friend this story and she said will give them credit of the pretty good food. However, she doesn't like to give them business because whenever her family buy roasted pork, they would add bones in there and then weight after. So after a few times of this happening, they started to ask them to weight before chopping.

This reminded me the first day when they were open. I ordered a bbq duck rice. The duck were chopped so lousy and all bones! The chopping was so bad that there were broken bones all over the rice! I took it back to complain!

thoughts, anyone?

i am quite surprised that they can count the drawer.. i thought their cashier drawer won't balance tim ~~
I am the one who always forgot to get the change...but most store owners/ sales will call me back and give me back the change... i think that girl just want to cover up~~ dun want to admit her mistakes~~

小叻說得對﹐他們無可能 BALANCE 到數架窩﹐真搞笑。。。我覺得他們只係做樣囉。。。

呢間野D燒肉係唔錯﹐但我也有過很差的經驗﹐若是那年輕的老闆仔切﹐他會比很多頭頭尾尾的﹐老闆比較好少少。。。但係買飯的都多數唔會比好的東西囉。。。有次我買的燒鴨燒肉飯﹐燒肉得少少﹐仲要切得超 THIN﹐燒鴨全是骨頭﹐真係食到很氣頂。。。

但是你這個情況我就未遇過﹐我都建議大家小心D﹐比錢要說清楚比了多少﹐特別是 $20﹐因為我響 PACIFIC CENTRE 都試過類似經驗﹐所以以後幫襯那家越南野﹐若是給 $20 我一定多說一句﹕ 是 $20 來的。

A lot of small business would never have their book/sales balanced.
At one of my favourite Vietnamese sub deli, they would sell 500 sub a day,
everyone walk in would buy over $10 and they just shove all the cash into a metal mooncake box. Only when Caucasian customer pays, they would use cash register
machine. If you read the cash receipts, sometimes they are dated year 1999.
I actually know some merchants who would buy an extra cash register machine and only report the sales from 1 machine(they are still in business)
Cheating on customers is a common practise for BBQ shop, I have seen all the dirty tricks, one trick is that they slam the merchandise onto the scale and take the heavier reading. The infamous BBQ shop on Kinsway was shut down by Federal government for repeatly tempering scale. The only type of the customer they dare not to fool are the smart C9

haha~~ I am not a smart C9 for sure~~ so I usually go to buy BBQ pork/duck @ 明家~~ they are very good.. they didn't cheat on weight like the one in "rmd public market" & parker~~ they won't put those 頭頭尾尾 too~~ but the not too good part is.. they dun give out extra sauces~~ so i usually will make my own sauces~

My husband had bad experience with tampering of scale too! That's in one of the herbal stores in China town. He caught them on the spot! They quickly said oh, ng ho yi si, ng woi jeh!

Anyway, sticking with this BBQ store. Although they gave me back the change but I am still pixxed about how they "wut" me and my husband!

As for the counting of money part, I don't know if it had anything to do with them double checking if they really did give me back change lor.

Come to think of it. They 2 of them insisted that we check our pockets and purses for the change while the cashier insisted that I gave her exact. Their words contradict each other. This tells me they weren't even sure themselves. I should've been the one telling them to check their own register! They made me feel like I was the one who robbed them blind!

Very bad attitude to run business. Even I haven't been there before, I won't try in the future. And if I were you, I won't go back again.
To be more black-hearted, hope they'll keep the same attitude, then we're going to see them folded in the not far future!

It has been so long (if it ever happened) that a person pointed to me straight and literalty said I'm a liar. For a split of a second, I did check myself whether I lost of my memory. Gee...

Yeah, i agree that I feel the same way too....being black hearted. However, missing business fr. 1 or 2 people won't make a difference to them nor do they care I think. If they respect and appreciate their customers, they won't pull that kind of Shxt! I understand honest mistakes do happen but how they handle it really sucks! So unless people spread the words and boycott them, it won't have an effect. I hope more ppl will read this and pass on the msg to be careful when buying. I hope the owner knows he's placed on a black list in LYK and clean up his acts!

I do agree honest/innocent mistakes do happen and which they are much forgivable with proper handling. Yet I believe, the kind of "mistake" happened on you was not only occasional but might also many other customers' bad experiences (or similar ones). You people don't really need to get together and arise any boycotting action, as long as you many individuals won't go back again they'll end up the same (fold down)! Hehe... . (and of course spreading it out on the net is effective too)

I have been a counter person and cashier in my own restaurant before and I did give the customers back the wrong change many times. Once customer told me, I would just give back the right change. I would not ask the customer to check their pocket. I think it's rude to do so.

There was once a customer left the change (more than 5 bucks) on the counter and he went to next stall and my wife had to call him back to get the change. We would not take money which is not rightfully ours.

Their food is pretty expensive. Everytime I went there,I would rather try other stores. Yesterday my friend bought me food there,their salad tastes like water without real salad dressing.

Hee.. last time in Crystal, a Chinese ordered some food, paid, then left right away. The cashier was just about to give her back the change, he could have yelled her back, but he didn't. Well, although just $1-2...

haha. there was in a small cafe near my old office when I was with my old job. I once just took the hamburger and forgot to pay. They knew I was from the office upstairs and kindly reminded us that we forgot to pay....

Their food is good but pretty expensive.

Everytime I eat at Crystal mall, I hardly see them have much business.
Only my sister-in-law buy "chicken feet" from them which cost 2 dollars .:p

If it's not my sister in law, I won't go there too usually . It's too expensive.

Once I went to the BBQ House on the 街市 floor, the one close to the elevator (@ the corner) around 6ish. I ordered half of the chicken/duck (don't remember), and they were kinda like forcing me to buy the whole thing... I refused to cuz I only have 2 ppl eating. then they gave me black face....

I wonder sometimes if they are "ng yau jo". I don't expect ANY customer service but certainly not bad customer treatment!
