where did you order your cake from? and how much is it?

i went to Saint Germain... there's one that i really like with fresh roses it costs about $550...
are there any other suggestions??

A suggestion for a truly unique and inexpensive wedding cake:
Order a good plain cake from a reputable bakery, order some unsprayed edible flowers from your wedding bouquet florists, get your sister team to place the flowers on cake. You will save at least 50% and A very personalized cake. The cake may cost $200 and $30-45 for fresh flowers( EXOTIC ORCHIDS COSTS MORE)
Wedding cake is all about labour cost, I used to do cakes that I charge $1000 and up for labour

I got mine from Saint Germain, but I'm not totally satisified as they change the type and color of flowers from the picture shown to me. Many ppl found the cake very nice looking but not as I expected.

My wedding is in Aug this yr...and I still haven't buy the cake yet lol~
I heard that if you buy the bakery cards together & you can get some disounts on the cake. no quite sure... my bf said will go to Kam Mo fong this weekend and ask for prices..
We went to St. Germain last week..and their price is expensive...><

Oh does Saint Germain jack up the price so much? Or you have large number of guests...
My wedding cake was $400 (or bit below) enough for 26 tables...I think price is ok...
And I love my cake..

Have you tried Anna's cake house?

fibbi: i think the price depends on the style that you want... i did see some $399-450ish cakes too

Has anyone tried to DIY the wedding cake? I know it sounds crazy, but after looking at this blog, I really wanna try it!! I'm surprised that the ingredients of a wedding cake are pretty cheap, so you're just paying most of your money on the skill and labor.
I know it's not easy to make a perfect cake, but pratice makes perfect!
And you'll SAVE A LOT!
It looks fun to make the cake too!

ammm... may be u can try to see if ordering a rather plain cake is cheaper and then just add decoration yourself?
I think adding fresh flowers and ribbons shouldn't be too hard. But I don't know how much you can save by doing so.
So .... just wondering... everyone like chinese style fresh cream cakes here?

From what I saw in the pictures, it is only appealed to Caucasians,
first the cake needed to be heavy and the rolled fondant is almost
inedible. Asian style cakes are fresher, lighter and the flavors are
more interesting. Michelle, Patisserie D'Ors, St.Germaine, and Yellow Sugar Fairies do very nice intricate works on decorations. The Yan Bakery on Hastings makes
nice wedding cakes and very inexpensive.
You can also try VCC, PICA and AI

i have weird taste

I like Fondant and western cake more than fresh cream asian style cakes.
And the look really counts! That a main centre piece for the wedding banquet.

I have seen a 3 tier cake costs around 250 in VCC, but that's like almost 2 yrs ago lor

My brother's wedding cake was by Kam Mo Fong. Look pretty nice with 2 layers (levels?). I forgot how much was it... We bargainned tho LOL

VCC makes nice cakes, nice decorations too... and should be not as expensive...

wow cool~~ so u are learning how to make cake ~~ i used to do some small decorations on the cake too while i was working at the Safeway bakery long long time ago~ XP of coz my skills suck XP
where can i go and take a look at the design and pricing? they have a shop? or small room at VCC campus that selling cakes?? i want to bring my bf to take a look at it too

yeayea there is a bakery shop at the DT campus that sells all the baked items as well as other food from the culinary class =) is on the second floor, and there are a few samples out, but u can always ask the clerk for more details =)

not yet ah~~ I know it's kinda late now..coz only around 2.5 months left from my big day...i haven't order the flowers yet too..but the lady at parker place said..it's not too late to order it in early July... i want to go to other places to compare prices ..by the way.. the parker place flowers look really GREAT!!

I got all their price list written down wakakaka

the bebicchichi is from hk..customs made at 金都~ they are so cute that we wont put them on the car front hahaa~ my frd in hk saying that she can give me a hello kitty set~ i will probably use that one on the car lol and put the bebicchichi on the reception table~~

the dolls are from Japan.. and they customs made the clothings and hair accessories~ u can choose ur own style of clothings.. and she will hand made it for u~

I saw a small version of my bebicchichi at parker place~ but their clothes are original plain one..

yup| I got them in Kam Do..it takes around 2 months to make it..so u might need to ask ur frd or relative to mail it back to u~ they customs made the clothes.. i didn`t pay attention to other characters..but i think they should be able to do so~~

for the invitation cards.. dun be tempted to do it at 天賜... they imported the standard invitation card from China.. and some of the writings are incorrect.. and they will just print a sheet of paper out and stick it to the card.. not worth it~~

I have to do my invitation cards here.. and it's quite expensive!! but it's very special gar~~ coz when u pull out the invitation card.. the chinese dressed groom will move forward and kiss the bride. lol~

我今日去訂左結婚蛋糕啦~~但唔係去金X坊﹐而是去Hasting 既某一間bakery shop~~ D 結婚蛋糕靚得黎好平~~ 300蚊到已經有個靚到痺既wedding cake~~ 我最後用左around $210 買左3 個 Tier 既 wedding cake (包delivery + tax) 本來想要order 以下依個(才$300蚊到) ~~ 但對於得8圍到既我實在太大太浪費了~~ 雖然好靚~~ 掙扎左好耐決定order 另一款細D既 (都好靚--但無圖) 我亦試過蛋糕味道~~好好食~~好食過新X美~~

好似話加多100蚊到就有兩邊樓梯~~

the pictures from above is pretty nice cause you hv the fountain ... but they lady from 新X美 said having the poles between the layers in the cake is sort of old fashion already (with no fountain the really old looking ones) and 95% of sample photos from their collections don't hv poles too. i originally wanted to hv poles between them so it will make the cake look taller lol... but my bf thinks is old fashion too

i agree.....don't have to spend too much on the cake if u are having a chinese banquet....coz they won't serve the cake until the very end...so most ppl just take a small bite and leave the rest on the table....it's sorta a waste of food...

get one that is fake at the bottom and only the top 2 layers are real cake kind of cake... make it taller to look good in pictures, and not wasting so much food... (there's cake like that right?)

I guess it's kinda hard for you to find the match fake bottom for your real cake LoL~ I believe most of the wedding cake that serve at the end of the banquet will never finish gar... coz most of your guests are pretty full at the end..unless those main dishes tastes BAD~ *

of coz you can still buy a larger cake just for photo taking purpose and dun mind about the wastage..it's all up to you gei..coz it's ur own wedding =D ~* I choose a small one..coz dun want the wastage..and saved $90 haha.. i am so broke lately..

ya. I am pretty sure if u go for fondant cake, they can make styrofoam tiers covered with fondant, then u can't tell that layer is fake at all because the real cake tiers are also covered by fondant anyway. That way you can have more tiers without adding much costs.

I got my cake at Kam More Fong and there was no poles in between. It was really beautiful and the boss woman lent me a silver cake tray. The cost of the cake is not the cheapest though.... I know I could have gotten it cheaper else where but cake is about craftmanship and the design of the cake was really nice. I bought the flowers and they put it on for free for me.

I've rent a silver cake tray from my decorator and I bought my cake from St Germain. It's nice except the flower they put is not exactly the same as the picture shown.
