Planning to get a video game for X"mas...which is a better one to pick??
Which one have a wider range of games to pick from?

I personally prefer PS3.  I feel that the motion sensing technology for the Wii is not mature yet and can still be improved greatly.

OOkay~ I'm think of PS3 too.....but its so expensive...I think its around $399!  I like games like Zelda...that you can play continuously....the onli videogame I ever played..at a frd's house -_-lll~

I would suggest to get a WII first.  PS3 is still too expensive.  WII has some fun games and you like Zelda.

It seems there is more "low-b" games for the wii then the others.

The PS3 is overkill I think.

As lik says, there's no such thing as better game console.  It all comes down to how much you plan to play the console and how hardcore you are into gaming.

If you just want something fun, easy to pick up or play in a party, then Wii will definitely be the first choice.

If you are a hardcore gamer, play the console even if you are alone, have high graphic requirements, or want more challenging games, then PS3 will be your choice.

It all comes down to how you plan to play the console.

PS3 is good if you can stand the noise
XBox is good if you want to play more mainstream games
Wii is good if you have kids and want to play free online

Well, it's not overkill la. If you like to play the games on it and to you, it's worth it, then it's all good! Plus, $399 is a lot cheaper than when it was first released already! That said, I have been wondering about whether I should wait to get a PS3 or not. Hehe, who knows, maybe the price will come down again? or maybe Boxing Day?

Depends on what games you want to play?

also Wii and PS3/XBOX 360 are different levels of machines even though they are all same generation
Wii's games are more friendly (and for many people to play in a party), but pretty bad graphics out of the 3
XBOX and PS3.. really depends on what games you want to play? there are certain games that are XBOX exclusive or PS3 exclusive...

however.. most games are available on both XBOX and PS3, and maybe one or two that also have a Wii version.. so when it really comes down to it, really depends on what particular games you want to play?

For example:
if you really want to play Halo 3 --> get XBOX
if you really want to play Super Mario Galaxy --> get Wii
if you really want to play Metal Gear Solid 4 --> get PS3
if you really want to play Guitar Hero 3 --> Xbox, PS2, PS3, Wii are all fine.

Right now PS3 sales are horrible because there are not enough PS3-only games, as long as exclusive games (such as Grand Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4 etc) become available, they will help drive sales.

some games will NEVER make it to another system

seriously why would anyone buy a PS3 if they know they could play Metal Gear Solid or Gran Turismo 5 on the 360? dont forget some of the games that are PS3 exclusive are actually published by Sony Entertainment... and Sony is banking on games like these to drive sales for their consoles. How else do they recover the intial loss from console sales?

Same thing for Halo 3 (publisher was under control of Microsoft, not anymore though)

as a proud owner of xbox360,wii,psp,nd,ps2, still missing ps3. i would recommand xbox360 over the others.

reasons for not getting wii:
sure it is fun at the beginning, but after a while on the a game, it gets pretty boring coz the games just ain't deep enough compared to other consoles. it is NOT good if you play by yourself most of the time, but if you like party games and like to play with others(note here, the "others" doesn't include boys, i haven't seen multiply boys play ...say...rayman, or mario party on a wii together, and i don't think it will look good as well), then get the wii. up until now, there isn't one wii game that i am really addicted to yet. last but not least, wii's online gameplay still sucks, for now.

Pros for the wii: good for play with chicks , and you can mod it and get games cheap!!!!

reasons for not getting ps3:
1. too expensive
2. no games, seriously, NO GAMES. if i have a ps3 now, i wouldn't know which game i will spend $70 on. cut the crap about metal gear or gt5 or final fantasy. not that i don't like those games, just THEY ARE NOT OUT YET, and who knows when they will come out exactly, if i were to get a ps3 because of those few games, i might as well wait till later when the games are released and hopefully by that time ps3 will be cheaper. it is better than having a ps3 collecting dust at home.
3. i dont' watch blueray, and don't have a 1080p tv to watch blueray on, and i don't know who will win the dvd war yet, blueyray or hddvd.
4. they CLAIM the ps3 graphics are better than xbox360, and it is SUPPOSE to be. but the results DOES NOT support it. just check ign or gametrailer for various xbox vs ps3 graphic comparisons on the same games.

pros for PS3: it is cheap blueray player (when you consider it is a gaming console as well). it doesn't have region lock. its online gameplay is free (it is, right? i think). and MGS4 GT5 FF13 is gonna be released on it, if you are die hard fans of those games, but who knows when they will be released. and RUMOR is, MGS4 WILL BE COMING TO XBOX360 AS WELL. RUMOR, I SAID RUMOR, don't flame me if it is not true.

reasons for not getting xbox360:
1. main reasons, THE 3 RINGS OF DEATH!!! if you don't know what it is, just google or wikipedia it. but on the other hand, MS is offering 3 years warranty on this particular issue, so i guess there isn't much to worry about. but i have to admit that waiting for the box to get it repaired isn't fun at all. but GOOD NEWS is, that  65nm chip version xbox will come out this year and it should fix that issue once and for all. whether you wanna wait or buy one now and return it (or break it and return it, i am not suggesting fraud/scam here) for whatever reason and get the newer version later is entirely up to you.
2. you have to pay to play online, price ranges from $200 HKD to around $70 CAD for 13 months, depends on if you can find the cheap card source :p

pros for xbox360
1. best online game play among the systems,
2. huge game library, more games than ps3 and wii combined.
3. great for connecting the console with your computer for whatever reason, if you are hardcore.
4. mod-able if you dont wanna spend $$$ on games, if you are not planning to play them online.

and as a direct answer for lavshuca's question "Which one have a wider range of games to pick from", i guess the it is pretty obvious, xbox360.

I DON'T LIKE NEW LYK STYLE, IT IS ONE OF THE WORST.

PS3 is loud??  do u even have one?  its quieter then a Wii!

I guess u never heard xbox 360 and PS3 or even a standard PC side by side.  the PS3 barely generate any noise

yeah i think ps3 isn't loud too,

loudest of all 3 systems should be xbox360, especially when you add a external fan.

HOWEVER, u gonna turn on your tv/stereo when u play, right? so who care which one is louder when the tv/stereo sound is gonna cover the console noise anyway...

Your arms gets tired if you play the Wii a lot, some games needs you to "fing" too much.

Are you kidding? I get to play the newest games/systems at work!!

I have a PS3 and Xbox at work on live demo, and bought the 40GB version and played a BR DVD at my friend's place... the PS3 (both work and 40GB) are both noisy. The 360 on the other hand is quieter. My Wii is silent compare to 360. Needless to say, my PC is noiseless, only powered by 2x 120mm case fan, no CPU fan .

Noise is about proximty, since my PC is closer to me (3 feet), little noise bug me. On the other hand, game systems tend to sit farther (w/ larger TV), you are probably not going to hear the noise.

Get the one with a larger hard disk, like the Elite. Don't buy the Arcade edition.

then u probably have a defective PS3
my 60GB is already quiet, my new white 40GB which i got for my dad as Bluray player is dead silent
