Where do you buy your supplies?
These are places I go...
- Making Memories with Scrapbooking
- Winners/HomeSense and Chapters(for paper pads)
- Dollarama
- the dollar store at Coquitlam Centre....

Where else?

Oh right, I forgot about Michaels
Yes I go to Michaels (but I don't receive flyers anymore and their newsletter doesn't include the coupon!!!)
The store on broadway and graville is called DeSerries (formerly, Lumis; please don't mind my spelling).
I should have mentioned, I wish to find out more places to buy *cheap* scrapbooking supplies.
Yes, I'm a c lai.
So I go to Dollarama almost every week and don't mind travelling all the way to Coquitlam dollar store once in a while just for their scrapbooking stuff.
作者: claichan    時間: 2009-8-6 11:41

oh Fibbi, which online store do you visit?
作者: myversa    時間: 2009-8-6 12:10

I used to go to clipper street a lot but the only store they have is at LANGLEY.
作者: fibbi    時間: 2009-8-6 14:13

Myversa: I think they still have a store in Coquitnam...both too far for me...

Claichan: yeah..that's the name of the store on broadway and granville.
Michales..u can sign up email newsletter then you can print out the coupon. Also, on Saturday Singtao newspaper, there is Michaels coupon listed. Btw, if you buy anything from Michaels this week, they give you a 50% off coupon for next week (attached to the receipt).
Since I'm mostly buy stamps (especially Heroarts products), I shop here: http://www.stampintreasures.com/  They ship by USPS and price is always good compare with others. Also they offer "price match" policy!
作者: KittyLeung74    時間: 2009-8-6 14:41

How's about De Serre on Main St or W Broadway?  They have a lot of paper products which are very good quality.
作者: claichan    時間: 2009-8-6 15:01

Clipper Street Coquitlam is closed as well... only Langley one left.
I didn't know Singtao has coupons!  I'll check that out.
Well I don't live close to any Michaels and don't drive as well, so i can't really afford to travel to Michaels every week, keeping up-to-date of their coupons...

Well, good to know there're many scrapbookers on LYK
作者: myversa    時間: 2009-8-6 15:13

Claichan, the Dollarama close to Granville Station.. lots of good stuff? I was so crazy back then and bought lots of tools from "Making memories" store when they have 40% off.... ahhah but  I didn't make that many cards thou =( Seems like I am wasting money on them. Recently, I found some good deals on ebay about those clear stamps. They are really expensive when you buy them at original but some sellers are selling those brand new ones at supper good deal. =)

By the way, where exactly Dollarama in BBY area is? like Next to Futureshop?
作者: claichan    時間: 2009-8-10 13:32

yeah, bby dollarama is pretty much next to Futureshop.  You will definitely see it at the parking in front of Futureshop.
However, I find that it sometimes depends on their shippment as well.  I'm not sure if it's because I've been there too frequently, or they are really getting less new stuff lately.

Ebay,...hm... , I was starting on my christmas cards this weekend, but found that I DON'T HAVE ANY CHRISTMAS STAMPS!  So guess what I'm gonna do!  SHOPPING~~~~

I love clear stamps as well.  However, the ink colour always stains on it.
So that's why I like rubber stamps more.

The "sweet little baby" is a rub-on which I bought from Coquitlam Centre dollar store.
The dots ribbon, from Brentwood dollar store,
The embellishment (the baby clothes tag with "it's a boy" clear sticker on, is from Dollarama.
The blue dots paper and the card base, as well as the scallop paper, I bought from Winners, DCWV card stock pads.

Yeah Nestabilities die is expensive but it does cost less if you buy all the punches separately. The punches also take up so much spaces.

I made this card is for Fathers' Day.

The cuttle bug machine seems expensive but it totally worth the $.
Wait for the sales in Michaels and I remembered I got it for about $55 with tax. That's like 2 Dior lipstick?
The cuttlebug folder is around $6 each but wait for sales as well...

Call me crazy...last Saturday I spent $7x in Michaels during the extra 25% sales...and another $50-ish in Scrapebook warehouse...That's just last week...
作者: Rainy    時間: 2009-8-19 14:14

I was thinking to get the cricut machine but then now it seems that the cuttle bug machine is much more worthwhile than the cricut because the cricut machine is more like for 'cutting'

作者: claichan    時間: 2009-8-19 15:24

Wow, nice card Fibbi!
The color combination so nice!

I have both the cuttlebug and the cricut (I used the 50% coupon at Michaels to get the cuttlebug, such as a great deal and I remember before christmas last year, walmart had the cricut expression on sale for $27X, which now Michaels selling it for $499)
I found that I use the cuttlebug way more than the cricut but only because I have no fixed area for scrapbooking and the cricut is too heavy to move around.  I used it during christmas time for the christmas cards mass production.  btw, have you started your christmas cards yet?  My goal is to make 100 this year, trying to sell them at work.

Well I just found out that over the last few months, I have spent so much on scrapbooking that I have no savings for flight back to HK this yr.....

I went on Michaels the other day and register an account, it emailed me a coupon 50% off any one regular priced item.  I printed, don't know how many copies, and used it on at least 4 items already!

Fibbi, I'm looking at your mothers' day card, what did you use to color the Japanese dolls? and is that a stamp?  I love it! (and I've seen this doll in many magazines and forum but don't know where to get it)
作者: fibbi    時間: 2009-8-19 15:57

I'm very slow in making card. I could spend a few hours on one. I think on avg it takes 1.5 hours on one card. So I don't think there's a chance for me to hit 100 x'mas card before x'mas.

The Japanese doll is Hero Arts stamp (my favourite brand). Here. I got this one from the Granville Island stamp store but don't know if they still have it now. Michaels has some Hero Arts products but I haven't seen this one yet.
And I just use colour pencil to colour the doll. I think the face I use copic markers I can't remember now.

I usually just made card for friends when there's special occasion. Like friend's birthday and my "artistic" mind tend to flow better when closer to the "deadline". I rarely pre-made something.
作者: Rainy    時間: 2009-8-19 16:08

作者: claichan    時間: 2009-8-19 21:30

Haha Rainy, I'm just a shopaholic, compare to Fibbi' cards, mine are just simply cut and paste works.  No skills much.  (sigh, I was debating whether to go to Scrapbooking Warehouse today.  So I decided to go by taking the Canada Line and on my way walking on Marine, I dropped my iPhone to the ground, there goes $100 so I went straight back to the station and home......coz no more money to shop )

Fibbi, so you have copic markers!  Are they easy to use?  Where did you buy them?  (maybe I shouldn't ask.....)
作者: Rainy    時間: 2009-8-19 21:43

Let's don't talk about the sad thing.

During my extended LONG 3 hrs break from work, I went all the way from DT back to Metrotown to check out that dollar store next to Futureshop. I bought 2 things there (glue tape and the double sided adhesive dots). Then, I headed back to metro's $1store, bought a 2 for $1 tag (which is like a HUGE sheet with lots of different stickers and tags).

Have you girls been to the Dollar store on Kingsway and Night? that one actually has much more craft stuff than the ones in Burnaby =)

yea, you should! From my old work place, a girl makes cards all the time and she charges people like $2 per card. If they purchase like more than 50 cards from her, then she will give discounts to them.

Btw, What is MMWS??

I haven't started selling yet. I always feel that my cards are not good enough for selling. My technique is not as good compare with others...I'm still need lots of practice....

Copics is not easy (at least for me). I definitely haven't master the skill. Because of the copic marker, I need to buy more special ink and paper. I use Memories dye ink (black) but that won't work for copic....need to get Memento ink. Sigh...just a "loop" for expenses...
I used to get copics in Clippers street (they always give discount) but since they closed down I don't buy that much now. scrapbook warehouse used to have good price on copic but they raise the price recently. I think granville island stamp store has better price. Still they are like $7 each. Worth or not? I dunno...
On the other hands, I read from forum that people use Prisma colour pencil + Gamsol (some say baby oil works too) to archive similar blending result. I haven't tried that though.

Hey that's pretty! I like the way you dress up the inside of the card as well. Usually I am too lazy to do much inside.

For some reasons, I don't like the front part, it's like the colours are not matched with each other =(  But I really like the inside... ahhaha

Rainy, your card looks nice!
I like you idea of having a see-through ribbon on the front.
I guess you think it crappy looking only because the color coordination is a bit off.
That's what I have problem with and that's where my shopping starts.
I start buying lots of materials, in different color for matching when needed.

Does Scrapbooking warehouse have any classes?
I've never been there actually.

Fibbi,
I couldn't find the pictures of my embossing folders on the net yesterday.
was gonna take a pic at home but too busy yesterday,
I'll try to post them up this weekend.

Do they still accept postal code without presenting a physical coupon???
Sigh, I go crazy to find the Michaels flyer when I go back to my home or in-law's,
because we dont' receive flyers at our condo....

Yes, the colour coordination is way off ( I think). Espically the little red square underneath the cake stamp. However, if I use some lighter colour, I can't make the 'cake' to stand out either =( ahhaha I was debating if I shall 1/2 hanging the cake along the ribbon or hide it under the ribbon...... shall I just stick the cake itself? or it's better to have a 'base' for the cake?

I like the see-throught ribbon and I bought them during boxing week at some non-crafting stores. I think I got it for 49 cents or something.

btw, my co-worker brought me to Dressew yesterday.
It has lots of ribbons and fabric, buttons and others at really low price
It's on W. Hastings via Homer

No they don't. At least the Richmond didn't do that.

Yeah...I like your word "泥足深陷"
That's best description!
I also tend to buy lots of supplies, especially when Clipper Street close down, I almost "swipe" the whole stores...haha
Almost got 80% of the available paper card stock so to ensure that I will find a matching colour.

I have taken one copic class from Scrapbook warehouse. Personally I think I don't learn too much but I do get some reference material and a free copic marker. I guess the $ is not wasted.

I personally think (just my little 0.0002 cents) that gold ribbon with the light pink doesn't go too well with this yellow.
This is a "bright" yellow that may work better with the dark pink (i.e. your cake frame colour), dark red or bright green/blue etc.

My hubby sometimes saw me sitting still staring at piles of paper and call me crazy! It does take long time to "match the colour", at least for me. I can spend 2 or 3 hours on a card...big chunk of the time spent on the design and colour matching la.

Yeah it's also nice to see very neat/tidy workspace. Me.... sigh...
I just categorize different colour paper stock into plastic bags...and I bought a 3 drawer for rubber stamps...other accessories just in different bags lying on the floor... sigh...
So when I'm working on my card...i just sit on the floor to match..

Thank you!
I have the cuttlebug machine and it's great for embossing and cutting.
More detail here
fibbi 發表於 2009-8-19 12:25

fibbi, how much is the cuttlebug machine would be around? like is that the only machine that can make that embossing and cutting effect? how is that different than the Sizzix Machine?

I got the cuttlebug machine around $55 with tax from Michales. Wait until you got the Michaels 50% off one item coupon and the extra 25% off all items coupon.
The individual embossing folder is around $6 each in local stores, Michales is selling $9 each so it works out about the same with 40% off coupon.

I don't have other machines so I can't comment. I think cuttlebug is the cheapest among all...
作者: claichan    時間: 2009-8-21 22:31

Yeah I think Cuttlebug is great!
only if you intent to use the bigger die cuts in the future, then u would need to buy the BigShot instead.  I see that most local stores use the BigShot instead of the cuttlebug, and I once asked and the reply was the BigShot could take bigger size paper and diecuts...
I just saw today at Scrapbooking Warehouse that the Cuttlebug is $79.99 and Bigshot being $99.99.  As Fibbi says, use the coupon at Michaels, it's such a great deal.
作者: Rainy    時間: 2009-8-21 22:33

so, I can use that 50% off one item coupon and the extra 25% off all items coupon the same time? I got the 50% off one item coupon just not and wonder when's the best time to get the most deal.... ahahh
