Didn't you realize that all he has been showing off repeatedly for the past few years are all the same stuffs? That is all he got and he might be afraid that people will forget and ignore him. So he has to keep pushing himself to the front and yelling -- “hey, I am still here.. don't forget about me..".

I actually feel pity for him.
