My family never gave a minimum wage and we always give a raise to employees who perform well. Therefore, the wage of our employees is already well above the minimum wage level.
If the government raises the minimum wage to $10, the impact is that we also have to raise our current wage standard since our employees believe they desert a raise. For example, their current rate is $12 and they will be thinking of $14 or more. We certainly will take a big hit financially. A 20-28% increase on wage expense (wage + EI + CPP + vocation pay) during a financial turmoil like this? I don’t think it is viable for us under the current situation. We certainly have to cut back human power if we run out of option. If we cannot keep our head above the water, how can we take care of our employees?
NDP is just simple minded and does not have the knowledge and experience required to manage and develop BC economy. I am glad it did not win the election. |
