This is in the Atlantic provinces where Bell (ADSL) and Rogers (Cables) are the mainstream ISP there.

2GB limits applies to the Ultra Lite package, speed is about ISDN speed (128k) at the old time. 2GB seems reasonable for that package because people use it for email and quick web access only.

I understand the need for more bandwidth because most people would have more than 1 computers at home, stuff like VoIP, console gaming are using bandwidth too. The infrastructure in Canada is different than US or Asia because we just don't have the population and density for ISP to support an affordable service.

Shaw and Telus has been throttling P2P traffic ever since BT became mainstream. 3MB/s on Rogers is about 8 Megabit line, which is equivalent to Shaw Extreme-I service. Shaw has 100GB limit on the Xtreme-I.

I think the whole idea of pay-per-use is fair. Internet is a scarce resources, bandwidth is not free. The only way to cut cost without raising price is to remove accounts that are no longer profitable.

We are just too spoil to adjust to changes.
