My company fired Lexmark years ago due to inferior products and support (too many stuff to replace in a Lexmark). Brother also approached us and they were turned down too..
Problem with Brother is that the toner is cheap, but the drum unit cost $150+ after 20k pages. Yes, you can still print with a worn out drum but you are wasting paper when there are lines on the pages. I like HP and Canon because they are the drum and toner is integrated, less thing to replace.
I just bought the Canon ImageClass MF4390 for $250, and if it is not the network scanning part sucks, I would recommend it to you all. The thing works great on every aspect, just network scanning NEVER worked. Canon support is no use and they gave me the impression that if that doesn't work, too bad soo sad. The thing print fasts (30 sec first page), and print out is great.
I also have an HP Photosmart that runs the 02 cartridges... and having both laser and inkjet, I save myself some $$$ already. I get all the ink in the US, Amazon sells recycled toner for $20 a pop, better than refilling them here!
It depends on how you use, because different people needs different thing. The Lexmark Pinnicle Pro 901 is worth a look. I think LD is selling the biundle (printer + 2nd set of XL ink) for $237.
