Advance voting for Election 2008

October 30, 2008

Advance voting for Election 2008
The City of Vancouver will hold a general local election on Saturday, November 15, 2008.
There are three ways to vote: in advance; by mail; or on Election Day.

Advance voting takes place on November 5, 8, 10 and 12 (8 am to 8 pm) at:

City Hall (453 West 12th Avenue)
Dunbar Community Centre (4747 Dunbar Street)
Trout Lake Community Centre (3350 Victoria Drive)
Sunset Community Centre (6810 Main Street)
West End Community Centre (870 Denman Street)

All locations are wheelchair accessible.

Due to a legislative change, all eligible voters are now permitted to vote at an advance voting opportunity.  Voters no longer have to sign a document giving their reason for voting in advance.

Residents who would like to vote but who are not already on the voter’s list will be required to produce two pieces of identification, one with a signature on it, and one that shows a current address. They will also need to complete and sign an application form.

Here are examples of ID that are acceptable:

   B.C. Driver's Licence
B.C. ID card from Motor Vehicle Branch
ICBC Owner's Certificate of Insurance and Vehicle Licence
   B.C. Care Card
   Social Insurance card
   Citizenship Card
   property tax notice
   credit card or debit card
utility bill for electricity, natural gas, water, telephone or cable services
Ministry of Housing and Social Development (formerly Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance) Monthly Report/ Request for Continued Assistance (HSD081)
If a resident only has one acceptable ID document, or no ID showing an address, they will be asked to take a "Declaration of Voter Identity and Residency" before an election official. The Declaration would take the place of the second piece of ID.
