I was lucky with most of my travels. Rome, Venice, Florence, Tuscany, Kyoto, Tokyo, Taipei, and alone in New Jersey + NYC .
Nothing really dangerous happened. I felt Italy pretty safe as long as you don't go towards the obvious "kids, babies and gypsy" and tourist traps.
My only scary experience was getting lost cos of weak GPS signal on my rental car in NYC downtown AT NIGHT by myself. Took me over an hour to get out of it.
Can't wait to go to Spain and Mexico in the near future. (next few years or so)

that's nice! I ran into two Canadian in Tsukiji. They helped me to find the tuna auction section of the market. We chatted and exchanged contact. They invited me to dinner that night but it was my last day in Japan and I had to have dinner with my sister and her family. But meeting up ppl is fun

Rental company said some Credit Card issued in Asia doesn't cover rental in all region.
Mine does cover everything.

If you are traveling for business, your company/office should tell you their car rental policy. Mine has clear instruction on what needs to be done. But I rarely do business trip. (I avoid to travel for work as much as I can)

call your credit card company. Each card and each company is different. So it's better to know the policy about yours. Many of my coworker (unfortunately) had claimed for lost/late luggage and delay flights via company AE card.
