The investment into the Guangzhou Asian Games includes many other basic infrastructure like new highways, subways, airport expansion, water supply, solar power etc. These are investments that they need to make anyway

For some reason, to the self-hating bashers,whenever China does something, it is always wrong. The Asian countries are taking their turns to host the Asian Games. This time is China's turn. Next time will be South Korea. I don't wee any reason for bashing China on this event.

Maybe you should bash Vancouver for wasting money on the Winter Olympics.
The Olympics village is still on sale with no buyers at all.

You should bash London Olympics as well, since the UK is going bankrupt.

It is not only China that hosts the Asian Games. All the other Asian countries take turns to host the Asian Games. Some country has to host the games each time.

Besides the Olympics, the Asian Games is the second largest international sporting event, in terms of the number of athletes and receives wide coverage in Asia.

The Asian games is not something new. Japan, South Korea, India, Thailand, etc take turns hosting the Asian games. Are they 好大喜功 as well? Unless the Asian is canceled, I don't see how China hosting it is any different from Japan or India hosting it. There is no reason to bash China on this at all.
