中國與越南的南沙群島主權爭拗升級。越南軍方下周一將在越南中部沿海，展開歷時六個小時的實彈演習。另外，台灣的外交部再度重申擁有南海主權，不容置疑。

台外交部昨晚重申立場，強調無論就歷史、地理及國際法而言，南沙群島、西沙群島、中沙群島、東沙群島及其周遭水域，屬「中華民國」固有領土及水域，其主權屬於「中華民國」，不容置疑。任何國家無論以任何理由或方式予以主張或佔據，「中華民國」政府一概不予承認。

台外交部認為，相鄰南海各島礁的國家，應依據相關國際法的原則與精神處理議題，避免採取任何影響南海地區安定和平的單邊措施。

外交部重申，願秉持「主權在我、擱置爭議、和平互惠、共同開發」基本原則，與其他國家共同開發南海資源，同時呼籲相鄰南海各島礁的國家應自我約制，並透過協商對話，和平解決南海爭端，台灣願積極參與相關對話，共同促進區域和平穩定與發展。

It is interesting that Taiwan also claims these islands. If Taiwan sends warships to the Spratly Islands and the Vietnamese attack, will the US defend Taiwan based on their defence agreement?

Remember, the US is now siding with Vietnam against the Chinese.

Similarly, with regard to Diaoyu islands, will the US defend Taiwan against the Japadogs based on their defence agreement?

If Vietnam attacks Taiwan warships in Spratly Islands, the answer is yes.

The US has defensive agreements with both the Japadogs and Taiwan.
Both Japan and Taiwan are claiming the Diaoyu Islands.   
Which side should the US side with?

For the aircraft carrier, the Chinese had to wait for its weapons systems, warships and suitable planes to get ready for the past couple of years.

China did send fishing fleets and fisheries partrol boats to the Diaoyu Islands area.

It should be the ROC that should send its ships there now, since the Diaoyu Islands are historically under Taiwan province's jurisdiction. Also, this will force the US defend Diaoyu Islands against the Japadogs under the Taiwan defensive agreement.
