BTW, back to the accident.
Certainly overloading is a factor. But that still can't sum up to the failure of an year old heavily designed bridge.
What's your opinion though?
Hint: something to do with the construction schedule, inspection, or minor design default...

It probably has something to do with the standard requirements. If the bridge meets this standard then it is not 豆腐渣. But the thing is that if the standard requirements is set too low, then meeting this standard is not enough.
Big trucks are overloaded in China. It happened before when a couple of extremely overloaded trucks line up on one aide of a bridge. So how much safety margin you need to build into the standard requirements? Do you set the standard requirement so that the bridge can tolerate a traffic jam full of extremely overloaded trucks? |
