VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Around the world, there are pockets of people who live exceptionally long and vibrant lives. News1130 is talking to a Vancouver author who made it his mission to find out how they do it.
Harry Mouratidis heard about villages in France, Spain, Italy and his native Greece, where people live well into their 90s. And that's as a rule, not the exception.
The organic chemist set out to learn about their environments, diet and lifestyle. He wanted to find out what they had to say about longevity, and find common ground among everyone.
He chose villages, because they all had unique secrets and some habits in common.
Mouratidis explains all the people he talked to had similar personality traits. They were all optimistic, curious, not afraid of aging, and they all felt like the masters of their own destiny.
In terms of diet, he made three key observations. Mouratidis adds that most ate a wide variety of local products, pure ingredients, and they eat everything in moderation.
He says the locals he met weren't exactly athletes, but they always kept active. They kept in shape by climbing stairs, hiking and going up hills.
Mouratidis has compiled his interviews together in a book and has backed it up with scientific findings. |
