VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A big change to the Celebration of Light next year. The event has been cut from four nights to three nights for 2011.
The fireworks will go on Saturday July 30th, Wednesday August 3rd, and Saturday August 6th. The decision was made by the event organizers.
Park board commissioner Ian Robertson says the new schedule comes with pluses and minuses.
"We have one less night to clean up. From a tourism and an economic generator point of view, I'm sure the merchants in the West End might be disappointed because it's one less night," he guesses.
On Monday night, the park board will make the decision whether to add pay-to-use bleacher style seating in English Bay that could fit up to 1,000 people.
Prices haven't been worked out yet but Robertson says there's been little resistance to the plan.
