Man shot, killed in Surrey during auto collision dispute

METRO VANCOUVER - A 30-year-old Surrey man was shot to death after a minor car accident in Surrey on Wednesday night.

Before the shooting, the man was driving south in a white Lexus in the 6900-block of 128th Street in the right lane. The car was following a white SUV (thought to be a Ford Explorer) travelling in the left lane. The SUV crossed the centre lane and collided with the Lexus, causing minor damage, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team's Cpl. Dale Carr said in a news release.

The driver of the Lexus stopped, got out of his car and approached the driver of the SUV when shots rang out, Carr said. The driver of the Lexus was hit by one or more bullets, he ran to the sidewalk and collapsed. Once an ambulance arrived, he was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"The driver of the SUV, thought to be a South Asian Male was seen leaving the area south on 128th Street through 64th Avenue," Carr said. "The suspect vehicle is described as a White SUV Ford Explorer type vehicle with silver trim along the bottom of the vehicle."

Investigators will be at the scene today, and traffic will be affected between 68th and 70th avenues on 128th Street. IHIT detectives will also being going door to door looking for witnesses.

"At this point of the investigation it is too early to say if there are any links to gangs, drugs, or organized crime," Carr said.

Police are looking to speak to anyone that may have seen an erratic driver in a white SUV between 11:00 p.m. and midnight in the Newton area of Surrey.
