VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - BC teachers and their employers resume contract talks today.  Both sides insist they want a deal before school starts on September 6th and that leaves just two weeks for the two parties to find common ground.

Without a deal in place teachers plan to restrict their work outside the classroom.  The uncertainty around extra-curricular activities is a tough for kids and parents alike.

"Especially for parents because that's the type of education they want.  However, the teachers have a legitimate concern in my mind.  I don't have children, so I don't have to deal with the fallout of that, however, the teachers have to do something," says one woman.

"I had drama, I had my band, I had tennis and stuff like that and I really enjoyed doing that.  I was not a good student and if I had no extra-curricular activities then I would probably just not want to be in school so much," says one recent grad.

Teachers voted in favour of strike action earlier this summer.

The BC Teachers' Federation wants better benefits and higher wages but the government says it has no new money.
