If you don't spend you don't pay the tax.
It's a very benign way to curb excessive consumption.

We are paying 10% on almost everything here, which is just a few % short of the HST.  And seriously, I don't really care if they raise it to 13% or 15%.  Food/Basic needs is such a small part of my spending.  A few % can't hurt.  And for those of you who complain, think about how much money you spend on discretionary goods vs "basic needs".  Not every penny on your electricity/gas bill is a "need" if you leave all lights/electronics in your house on 24 hours a day

But we can't stop using BC Gas/Hydro wor... For sure our expense is going to go up. And this time not just 1% or 2%, it's 7% that we can't avoid!
