Oh, and I think b&w and color are two completely different fields.  It's probably very difficult to master both.  I would just spend a lot of time on one (b&w for me) and try to make good prints.

That's absolutely the case.  Lenses with classic designs are less contrasty and have a softer rendering.  Many Leica pre-asph lenses are like that.  However, even if a newer lens is sharper, it should still give a smooth b&w tone.  Those cheap Canon/Nikon lenses can't really give you that.

I am drawn to the old designs too.  I am planning to get the Zeiss 50mm Sonar precisely because of its classical design and soft rendering.

But sometimes I feel weird for using that lens for so much b&w work since it's designed for color photos.

I used a lower contrast for those 3 since we just talked about it yesterday.  I kind of like this look more now and maybe it's what I will be using from now on.

The compression is probably due to flickr not LYK.
