Read the link posted above if you need more details.

The maternity leave is only for the birth mother.  There is no way to "transfer" that.  For the birth father, one could apply for parental leave.

I don't see how ridiculous that is.  Why is she not allow to take parental leave when she has the need to do so?

If a "man" being hire as a substitute teacher for a year, and his wife gave birth during that period, is "he" not allow to take any parental leave at all?
