If you don't insist on buying new, there are a LOT of excellent cars a typical person can buy ga. The STI is definitely one of them.

hahaha i am BELOW typical la...spending every penny for school now

And that is perfectly fine. When you're in school, you're supposed to be investing in your future instead of blowing your $$ on some fancy car. You should be driving the cheapest POS you can afford right now.

Other than style can you name any other sports cars that has better performance/handling than the porsche 911 at its price?
Davidcopperfeel 發表於 2010-8-4 20:05

How about something that is cheaper than the 911?

The Corvette ZR1 is much, much cheaper than the 911, but it is every bit as fast, and probably easier to handle at the limit than the 911 b/c of the 991's inherent imbalance.

Also, don't forget that the Cayman is a car intentionally crippled by Porsche to not beat out the 911. Equipped with an LSD, a Cayman S would be easily faster than a rear drive 911 in tighter courses.

Don't be a badge snob and think that Porsches are the be-all-end-all sports cars la~

So talk to me when you have money for a used Cayman S.
Davidcopperfeel 發表於 2010-8-5 02:10

What good does your Porsche do when the driver has no idea of how to take it anywhere close to its limits? Driving is so much more than straightline acceleration and street racing. If I were your car, I'd be crying and bemoaning of how my driver has no idea of how to tap into my potential~

BG,

Yeah ..  I know Lik is actually a big baller!
Catpiano 發表於 2010-8-5 11:00

Ya, didn't you know my other ride is a white Escalade riding on 25" bling bling wheels?

But CP is the one with 20 super cars hidden in his high tech underground garage la~ It's just that he likes to keep a low profile gum je~

I'm happy to race with you on a race track . Name me the place and time.  Just don't cry when you lose because you don't have a Cayman S
Davidcopperfeel 發表於 2010-8-5 16:19

August 26, 2010 -- UBCSCC Track Day #3
September 27, 2010 -- VCMC Track Day #2

Both track days are held at Mission Raceway, but they are just that -- track days, so it isn't about racing. But if you want to try your hands at a timed event, you are more than welcomed to try your driving out at the VCMC or or UBCSCC autox events.

I'll very likely be at the September VCMC event. So I'll see you there? (Don't talk shxt and chicken out now wor? )

The purchase price of used Boxsters aren't very expensive at all. High $20k to $30k-ish can already get you a recent model (2005-ish?) la. Older ones are even cheaper.

But, as with everything Porsche, maintenance costs are pretty expensive. Bigger maintenance jobs will require having the engine dropped, so even when you don't consider the costs of replacement parts, labour alone won't be cheap la.
