For the record, while I fully support Canadian athletes in the Winter Games, I am against the city hosting the Winter Olympics right from the start. It is a waste of money as the the final bill has shown, and each of us is now burdened with a sizable debt to pay off.
So you say the Asian Games are the largest international sporting event? In terms of what? The number of participating country? The number of international followers of the games? I can definitely tell you that in terms of coverage and followers, the World Cup is easily many times larger and feverish than the Asian games.
More importantly, it is the level of competition that determines the calibre and prestige of sporting events. If the athletes at the games are not top tier competitors, then no amount of work can change the status of the games.
