C Hing, are you looking to buy new or used sin? And what sort of features / capabilities do you look for in the car?

If you are looking to buy used, I would tread very carefully because long term reliability is not any German car's forte.

On a different note, have you considered Volkswagen? As far as interior is concerned, they are among the best (if not the best) in the industry. Naturally, they are also not as expensive as BMW or Mercedes. Models with the 2.5L I5 engine are mechanically reliable, and as long as you keep the options list relatively short, you wouldn't have to worry too much about electronics breaking down either.

Additionally, think about how long you intend to keep the car. (We're only looking at BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and VW here.)

If you only intend to keep the car for 3 - 4 years, I would just lease any of them. It'll cost you more, but you'll have a completely painless "ownership" experience with no surprise expenses since everything is covered under warranty.

If you plan to keep the car for 4 - 7 years, buy the 7 year extended warranty, and go enjoy the car. Little things will probably start breaking in the 4th year, and more stuff will require attention as the car ages. Once extended warranty runs out, start thinking about selling / trading the car in before the next big repair rears its ugly face.

If you plan on keeping the car for more than 7 years, go with a simpler Volkswagen with fewer bells and whistles. The car will still drive well, and the repairs will at least be affordable.

That Buick Regal is a very nice car. It totally feels like a German machine because it is -- it is designed and engineered by Opel -- GM's relatively independent branch in Germany. The only downside about that car is that it is a little on the heavy side, but that's probably inline with similar cars in the segment.

The 2.0T or GS trim would be even better, with it's 260-ish hp turbo charged Ecotec engine.

It is definitely worth a look.

Snow Tires will NOT save you if you drive a RWD in winter icy and snowy road
