The US just wants to think of itself as the world's big boss and boss people around. If you think it is into mind control like your PRC grandfather, your brain functions are obviously crippled. 
China is in the hands of all the Chinese people, and the US is fearful that its superpower status will be challenged. All those anti-China bashers can do nothing about the rise of the Chinese nation.

There is as much truth to this as the time when 糊撚塗 (crap... or was it 溫影帝?) said to a Japanese kid that he was chosen by the Chinese people to be their leader. When none of the Chinese commoners have a say in determining who their leader is, how is China in the hands of the Chinese people? China is under the control of a mere 9 people in the 中共中央政治局常委會.
China is no doubt rising as a nation, but it is doing so on shaky ground ridden with booby traps. But instead of defusing those widespread discontent, Grandfather is simply suppressing them, thereby making the internal pressures and conflicts even worse.
