Kudos to Google for exercising corporate responsibility. Just goes to show that money isn't everything in this world, even when it comes to business.

Of course, I'm sure the fact that Google couldn't crack the stranglehold Baidu has on the Chinese market has something to do with this as well.

I should add that even though Google appears to be exercising its corporate conscious in this particular incident, they are far from the righteous image that they are trying to project. The Google (digital) Books project, in particular, ran into some major oppositions in Europe and in China. And especially in China, Google had to drop their scanned copies of tons of Chinese books and issue a public apology because of infringement and copyright issues. The last I read about this, some Mainland Chinese writers guild / association was looking to sue Google for damages as well.

This is certainly yet another setback for the Big G, but I dunno if it is enough cause or even a significant enough factor that adds to their Chinese market withdrawal plans.
