Actually shark meat is considered staple for Icelanders and
some Nordic countries, it is feasible to do farming that all
parts of the fish is fully utilized: flesh, fins, bones, oil and even
skin is useful. Mako shark is a high-end seafood item.
I hardly eat those novelty fish, not even once a year,
don't forget they consume a huge quantity of Blue fin tuna in
Shanghai and Hong Kong, much more than Canadian
it is illegal in aust., but don't know the rest of the world.

We can do our part by refusing to eat or buying shark's fin,
and to spread the idea;
eventually the market will shrink and the poacher would
decide that it is not worth their effort and switch to do
something else
